This was quite beneficial. I finished it and would like to go back and reread a few chapters. The chapter on setting goals was advantageous since it stressed the importance of giving yourself grace if you don't reach your goals within your set time frame. Simple, useful, and practical. I'm confident that everyone will find something valuable in this collection.
Theresa Miller is a cognitive therapist and focuses on the treatment of anxiety and addiction. She compiled and structured the book well, and the style is clearly one of a therapist. It seems that the book is a complete guide from recognition to healing. The only thing I was missing was referencing scientific sources and research.
There is a hell of a lot of really useful information here, and it makes sense as the author is trained in cognitive behavioural therapy. I would highly recommend this to anyone recovering from a toxic relationship no matter who you are, as it is written for someone who is not trained in psychology whatsoever.
As a survivor of abuse, this book really helped open my eyes to things I hadn't considered before. I was able to better understand previous situations and events. The book is very well written but I do think at times it's a bit redundant.
Basic approach to how an abusive relation works and the reason why the abused are often unable to leave their abusers. Some repetitions could have been avoided and references to scientific articles on the subject would have been appreciated. But overall, the book is informative and is a good source for the general public.
