Having lived for many years in Brittany, this book was like a welcome return, places I knew, towns I used to shop in. I almost felt that some of the characters were y old friends. It's a delighful book focussing on Pixie, her mother and a chateau....and a tenant also. The emotions and problems are so well written without being overdone. We see Pixie grow into forgiveness, of both her late husband and the new people in her life. Excellent read.
Following the sudden loss of her husband, Frank, Pixie discovers that the chateaux which they had brought in France, but couldn't take ownership of until the death of the existing owners, is now theirs. In fact, it has been theirs for four years and Frank was aware of this. Puzzled as to why Frank hadn't told her she decides to spend the summer in Normandy with her mother. Arriving in France another surprise awaits her, there is a young woman living in the cottage on the grounds of the chateaux. Pixie already knows that their dream of a new life in France can no longer happen, but was their life together already over, had Frank been planning to leave her? A pleasant enjoyable read
Jennifer Bohnet has done it again ... used her writing skills to transport us to another place, another time, as we share the lives of her characters. It was great this time to see chracters from a previous novel of Jennifer Bohnet's pop up ... it was like meeting old friends. With travel still a risky business reading this book could be a stress free way to enjoy life in the Breton countryside, meals on the terrace, chilled champagne. What's not to like!
