So you want a light that offers 1 lumen firefly brightness that lasts 60 hours, plus options for 200 lumens on full brightness (with a 500 lumen turbo mode), and you want it to have a display that shows exactly how many minutes of battery, and you want it to be rechargeable so you don’t go broke feeding it batteries AND you want this to fit in the “watch pocket” of your jeans? This is your light!
Other than being “a bit spendy” at $43, there is nothing I don’t like about this light. It comes with the same high quality quick-release key ring you might have seen on LRI’s excellent Photon Freedom micro light. Plus it’s made by Nitecore — and I’ve had zero problems with their lights over the past 5 years.
Also has two buttons — one for on-off and one for mode.
Further convenience is available by long pressing the power button to activate firefly mode and long pressing the mode button for turbo mode. I set mine for 65 lumens, which is good for most situations and that gives me all of the above options — each with a single press.
If I was being picky, it is possible for this light to be turned on accidentally with one unlikely but unfortunate press — but, if you find that to be an issue, you can program it be locked out until reactivated, but you’ll trade convenience for security.
Like practically all these generation of programming lights, the number of options might be off-putting to some folks (like my wife) who just want one good light with one button that turns it on and off period. I gave a similar light to a friend several years ago and, his wife later told me, that night when they got into bed, he was playing with his light, trying out all the features. YMMV!
An outstanding light you’ll love or love giving as a gift!
Found another light for my keychain. It’s a lot smaller than I thought it was. What I really like about this is that I don’t have to worry about the light dying on me because it provides information on how much more time I can use it before it needs recharging. Wish all flashlights had this feature.
I have a Nitecore p18 as my EDC. I have been carrying a surefire sidekick as a back up. It's end was approaching so I decided to give this Nitecore a shot. What a surprise. Much smaller than the sidekick. Five modes, easy lockout, easily readable data on mode and battery life and less than 7/10 of an ounce.
I carry it in my watch fob jeans pocket and trust it for its intended purpose. The turbo mode is amazing on something so small. My go to 15 lumen setting lasts for about 8 hours.
