Great read. The lessons in this book are ways to live your life that anyone can apply. Doesn’t matter if you’re a CEO of a Fortune 500 company, trying to teach your children how to approach the world, or are a student trying to figure out the rest of your life. The messages are simple (but not easy).
It’s not every day that 170 or so pages can have such a big impact on how to live your life. Highly recommend this book.
This little book will fit in your front pocket. The type is triple spaced you can read the whole thing in about 45 minutes. I read about a fourth of the book and read nothing new. He makes an outlandish claim of this poor girl that was killed in combat. He said she was in top shape she could do 20 pull ups. There is no woman alive who can do 20 proper pull ups, not many men. He also claims the 75th Ranger regiment is the most elite infantry on earth. How does he know that. That is just his opinion based on what? He said while in Afghan he was in intense combat every night , this is not true. With 20 years in Afghan and only @ 2500 deaths it is hard to imagine very much intense combat. Intense combat was Hue Vietnam, Chosin, Iwo Jima, Saipan, Okinawa not anything in Afghan. If you like baloney you might enjoy this little overpriced book . It is going back to Amazon.
The lessons to learn from this book will stay with me for years to come. Reading the heroic acts of others made me so proud that those within these pages walk amount us. Airman Jackson left a mark in the readings with me . Thank you for writing a wonderful page turner.
When I saw an interview with the admiral and saw he had written another book, I immediately went to Amazon and ordered it. I did not look at size, page count. If the Admiral wrote it, then it has to be good. When it arrived I could nor believe the size, it was smaller than most books, large print, in fact perusing the book I decided I would read it in an hour, then forward it to a close friend. I even told him, don't plan on taking more than an hour to read this. Then I began to read and reread and in some cases read a third time, It's not that difficult to read, but to understand what the Admiral is saying takes more than a quick skim. He makes you understand the hero code. I cannot explain it, He does and now after spending two days I am torn between sending it to my SEAL friend or just sending him a second copy. We are both much older than the Admiral so we were retired before he joined. Let me say this, it's not the size of the book, its the size of the thoughts in the book and this book stands on it's own merits and is head and shoulders above so many others.
It didn't take very long to read this book, but the lessons were all important reminders of how to live a good and meaningful life. Bill McCraven didn't reveal any new secrets in his book, but it was a concise and gentle reminder on how to live with courage and dignity throughout everyday life. I love this book and have already gifted it to others in my life. Thanks for sharing your gift with all of us.
