It's not for everyone, it's not a fairy tale but raw reality of the the world and the way we communicate. At first I was hesitant, I don't do deep moving books. But as I continued, I couldn't put it down. I'm not going to lie, I did skip the middle because I couldn't bare the pain that was described so beautifully. The conflict was a conflict for me. But I would go back and read it, because, I know the ending now. I feel calm. It wasn't the ending I wanted because Hirano gave me very little, but gave me enough to stop me from being left deflated. I'm glad I read this book. It opened me up emotionally in a way I never saw in myself. And if it really is a work of fiction with non fiction than whoever's lives I read about, I salute you for what you have gone through, all because of one misunderstanding. All because of pride and pain that stopped you from finding out the whys, the reasons behind the messages. I hope you are happy now, I hope that the life that had to be created in order for you to find eachother again, is the way you always imagined it to be.
Starts well. Well written. Decent plot device to begin with, but that soon wears thin. Too introspective. The author is trying (and failing) too hard to write an epic romance. Instead, it just gets tiresome. Increasingly, I found that I did not care what happened to the "beautiful people" who are the prospective couple, to the point where I got bored and gave up half way through - something I very seldom do. I could not even summon up sufficient interest to skip to the end to see what happened to the couple. This is a 100 page novella unfortunately, and unsuccessfully, strung out to 300 pages.
Quite a few world events and on-going issues were covered , consequently l was moved and had to pause for thought. I became a little irritated by the many sacrifices made but ultimately content with the subtle and graceful ending. A lot of work must have gone into the producing and translating of this wonderful book👌Prays to all concerned👏
I read a wide variety of books and even when I'm not enjoying a book I generally finish it....but this book defeated me. I got to 31% and I was so bored by the story and the verbose writing style which felt so unreal and the characters were so lacking in character that I decided life was too short. Personally i wish i had saved my money.
Reflective and poignant study of two star crossed lovers following a brief but impactful meeting. Written in the style of thoughtful and introspective streams of consciousness as they find their way through a life buffeted by chance encounters and external events. Is our fate predetermined or are we masters of our destiny? Immersive and beautifully written.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my ARC in return for my honest review.
This is one of the best stories I have ever read. Its theme is music and it has the power of a symphony. It is a classic and deserves a standing ovation! I only discovered it by chance but I will never forget it. I defy anyone not to be absorbed and moved by this beautifully observed love story.
One of the very best books I have read and I can only guess it would be even better if read in its original form, in Japanese. Beautifully crafted masterpiece. The reader urges on the protagonists whilst comprehending the intricate complexities of their profound love.
