Fallout in space? Where do I sign up! There are a lot of reviews that say its short (IGN says 25 hours with side quests) but knowing how I play. it will take me longer as I explore a lot and listening for unusual dialog, usually before starting on the main quest. It plays a lot like Fallout and looks a bit like Bioshock and Borderlands, esp when looting or interacting with npcs. Character customization is similar to Fallout, and it looks like there is a wide variety of weapons, armor and misc equipment. Graphics are good and gameplay is smooth, anyone who has played any fps will be right at home with the controls. There are some interesting combat options like being able to slow time, a bit like VATS in Fallout, allowing you to take critical shots to cripple limbs on opponents. I don't know a lot about the story line in the few hours I've played, but the one fault that i can see is that it uses a similar setup to Fallout 3 or New Vegas with the weapon/armor repair. There are perks and skills that can minimize the wear and tear, but I really found that annoying in those games, it will probably be similar in this. NPC dialog seems to be interesting, but it does have a rather linear story line, like a lot of rpgs. Overall I'd say that if you like the 'open world' type games, this is worth a look, esp if you can get it used along with the DLC. or for a lower price since it's now a couple years old. I bought it new for $19, which is not bad imo, though I saw used copies going for as low as $10. So after only having this a couple days and putting about 6 hours into it, I think it will be pretty good and I'd recommend it.
I like it, because it's just like playing a Fallout 3, but I hadn't played it that much because, well, it's too much like Fallout 3. I'm kind of tired with the mechanics. I guess I expected the team that made New Vegas to think some think like l, "finally we get to make a valid game in the vision we really wanted to. We can show our unique ideas.", but it's more... Yeah, let's just change the basics. I didn't really like the way Fallout 4 got rid of the whole RPG story features, the inactive and meaningful choices you make, so I was hoping this would make up for it. And it had for sure! I do love the story and the world they've created, but I want something with a little more. I wish they had added some more mechanics like parkor (a la Dying Light), cover shooter, just something. I also hated the lack of variety of unique and interesting weapons. I just picked random things based on the over simplified stats system. Fallout 4 wins here. Of course, no one beats Borlands. Those kinds of weapons would have been awesome.
I like this game a lot, but there were moments where it became a bit predictable and even a few boring points. I did all the side quests, and when I finished the game, I found I still wanted more without wanting to go back through the game as it is. The loading screens took f o r e v e r...which got real old when you play it through in a few days, and if you went somewhere on accident, you had to wait a while to get back because of the loading screens. It is a unique game with much potential, and I was hoping maybe they were setting up the world for future exploration, but the ending made it seem like a one and done type deal. You should play it, but I would recommend buying it used as it was not worth the preorder.
Intelligently written funny game. Makes me think of Mass Effect some, it is a little dialog heavy. It makes me think of Borderlands a little, the writing is darkly hilarious. It makes me think of Fallout a little, the customization of appearance and skills can be a bit overwhelming at first. I just got off the first planet, so this is only a first impression, however I am enjoying things so far! One star lost for being dialog heavy, and not being able to compare equipped items to items on sale from vendors.
I liked the game, let me say that first. Next, my expectations may have been a little too high. Probably the best game this year. The game felt very short, lacked some depth, a bit linear and even though you can make decisions in the game, it was obvious your experience would be changed dramatically if you followed certain paths ....maybe I was looking for more Fall Out New Vegas, how do you ever top that game?? If I wanted an open world I can beat in three days, Far Cry is what I buy after a year and the price is almost to give it away. This is a limited open world feel. They obviously left it open for DLC's. Since there were several worlds that were still locked. I did LIKE the game, I would recommend it. Just lower your expectations.
I did enjoy the outer worlds, the creativity, graphics, and gameplay was great. Extremely familiar for any fallout enthusiast. I did however get extremely tired of the constant loading screens when entering/exiting buildings, ship, and fast travel. There is plenty of loot to pick up; though much of it just sat unused in my inventory for the duration of the game. Overall I'd recommend it, it's one of those games everyone should have in their collection.
Don't go into it thinking new vegas, it's got a bit of that game and the other fallout games, but it's much more along the lines of a firefly style game. think wild west in space. it has that classic fallout dark humor due to Tim Cain and Lenard Boyarski. game is a bit short but considering it was fairly low budget it's impressive what is there. gives me great hopes of what the sequels will be like especially with microsoft's financial backing.
After the failure that was 76, I decided to no longer buy games on launch. Good call. This game isn't worth $60. That being said, it's a good follow-up to FO4. Def a combo of FO4 + Borderlands. Unfortunately a bit too Borderlands for my taste, both in appearance and script so it didn't hold my attention.
Fun but short. Finished the first play through it in a weekend. Fortunately, you have some different story options and different ways to play your character for more than one attempt. Fallout meets Mass Effect. Hopefully they add more planets/missions in the future.
