My girlfriend and I have played all the Borderlands games split screen, and we love it. But this version is basically unplayable. Not only have they done away with vertical split screen, which is a HUGE mistake, they've made the UI text size in split screen all but unreadable. I can't sit on my couch and play this game. I have to sit right next to the TV on an ottoman and read the gun stats to my girlfriend. How this made it out of testing is beyond me. Bringing up menus in split screen also creates more lag/stuttering than in previous titles. And so far, there has been no word from Gearbox on a fix. The game is fun... hence two stars, but in practice, playing it is very difficult and this is a problem that should never have been. I will update this review if they update their game.
The humor that has made the other Borderlands games fun is simply gone and that's a real shame. This installment of Borderlands focuses heavily on the characters from the "Tales of the Borderlands" game by Telltale Games and Lilith. Brick, Mordecai, and Tina are marginalized as are many other characters that made the franchise what it is. Many people didn't play the Telltale game so having an idiot running around in his underwear yelling "bandit life" makes little sense. The characters you play are beyond generic (more effort was put in to them being politically correct than giving them personalities) and even the personal touches in NPC responses from the Pre-Sequel are all but gone in this one further adding to the generic tone of the player characters. Glitches and clunky menus are easy to get used to and easy to fix with updates, but the heart of the game is just not there and without the fun characters and the good writing it just becomes "another shooter". I don't even see DLCs being able to bail this one out.
Just played through BL2 & Pre Sequel and all the DLC with my wife. Was excited to play BL3 but tried it last night and will likely not play again. The font size is WAY TOO SMALL in the heads-up display when playing co op. I can change the subtitle text font size, but none of the pop-ups for looting, the inventory, mission, skills screens, etc. We have a 65" TV and are about 8 feet from it but can't read. BL2 and pre sequel were just fine. If they don't have a way to fix this, we can't play it. Disappointing.
I have played all of the Borderlands and enjoyed them all. This latest game has some good features and could be fun except the screen freezes about every 5 to 10 minutes and lasts for 1to 2 minutes. Really takes the fun out of playing.
Big disappointment. Not as good as previous editions. Lame dialog, stupid US political issues interjected in the storylines. Just plane disappointing. Even the characters are boring. I think Borderlands 1 was 10x better than this.
Tried to play this but some flaw stopped me. Can't remember what it was since it has been a while. I seem to recall it had no place to go even though it was far from over. It seemed the next objective was not there. That along with other issues that just annoyed me to the point of deciding to give up.
Didnt come with the gold weapon skins pack the sticker in the box said it was supposed to come with. Can't get amazon to rectify this by giving me the code that the insert was missing which was the whole point of ordering this on amazon.
