While all Shakespeare's plays have been included and there are many interesting illustrations, the one thing that I feel lets it down is the very small print. While the print is not as small as a London A-Z, it is not that easy to read it even with 20/20 vision.
This is a review of the leather-bound version only. I don't know anything about the kindle version. I was aware that I was getting a used version, but the one I got was still disappointing. The cover isn't real leather and isn't bound very well, so it probably won't have a long lifespan. The cover is a cheap plastic over what feels like plush beneath, so it's squishy and not durable at all. The copy I got had a split all the way down one side of the cover at the back corner. Additionally, the pages feel thin and cheap. In short, I would recommend paying an extra $10 or so for a better version, unless you only want it for one-time use.
It's a pretty solid buy if you're just looking to read Shakespeare for fun or to have a good reference for monologues. If you're trying to do any in-depth research into Shakespeare, this serves as a good source for the text, but other texts such as the Folger's editions would serve that purpose better.
The print is surprising readable in this fairly compact, one-volume complete Shakespeare. It is well organized and more than good enough for this non-scholar to use as a reference book. We also read the plays out of this when the mood seizes us.
I love this collection. It was just what I wanted; a beautiful, unabridged, collection of Shakespeare's works to use in my library. There was a problem though, when I arrived home in a rainstorm the box was sitting on my front doorstep soaking wet. I hurriedly unwrapped the book and dried the wet pages. In the end the book was not damaged. The seller was not Amazon but a company working through amazon. If the book had only been wrapped in a plastic bag it might have been protected. Better quality control would have been nice.
Well, the book contents are strictly what the cover tells, there are no kind of studies or comments about Shakespeare's works, you will find only the pure texts of each story. Other negative point of the book is its huge size, what makes the reading feasible probably only inside your house; and the tiny letters, what really handicaps the reading. If you are not going to read every Shakespeare's work don't buy this book, prefer another one.
Other ratings said that there was definitions of some of the old world words at the bottom of the pages which is why I bought this particular version. There is not, the defintions are in the back of the book which make it harder to read for someone not versed in old English. Otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.
