This is about Alice's story who begins with a fortune-teller, she say to her somthing that will change her lif. Her story is similar what happen with conflicts like wars where many children stay orphans.
I normally read a lot of murder thrillers, trying, mostly successfully to work out the final part of the plot. This book came up on my recommended book list and the title drew me in. I didn't think I would like it when I read the summary, not really my type of book. But as it was not expensive and I was just off on holiday I bought it along with another couple of books to read whilst traveling. After reading the other books, I remembered this while waiting in Frankfurt airport and had time to kill. I soon realised that the mystery was intriguing and pretty much read it from cover to cover in one sitting. The characters and the 'journey' unravelled just like a detective does in my usual choice of fiction but with a nice twist. I will now search out some more books by Marc Levy. Highly recommended.
Wasn’t sure if this book was for me when I started to read it, but it drew me in and I quickly became absorbed by the story. It’s so descriptive and evocative that I could feel the cold of London and the warmth and smells of Istanbul. Couldn’t wait to get to the end and when I did I wished that I hadn’t. That’s always a tell of a good story.
I was fortunate enough to visit Istanbul a couple of years ago with my husband. This story brought all those memories of the places we visited back. A really well crafted story that I had great difficulty putting down. I don't often write reviews but felt compelled to do so for this lovely book. Not going to discuss the story, buy the book & read it yourself. You won't be disappointed.
This is a well written and constructed story. Once the destination was mentioned, I had a suspicion of the likely outcome, due to being a retired English teacher and knowing some history. This actually enhanced my enjoyment of the story. The hints and trails piqued my interest and should have led me to a conclusion earlier than I reached. The characters were well delineated and moved the story on. I enjoyed reading this novel and strongly recommend it.
This was a present for my sister, a retired company accountant. She loved it! A gentle, romantic journey of discovery and awakening, the end of which could have seemed trite, is instead a satisfying culmination to this above average novel.
I must not spoil the plot. But it's well written and not obviously translated. The author has a clear vision of Britain in the 50's. And has produced a novel with a bit of substance with a surprising insight into a rather bleak period of European history it would be wise not to forget
