The sound quality is great. But I find the concept of them quite weird. You cannot use them if they aren't switched on to hear sound. Also they are wired headphones and need to be charged? You can say I've never owned a wired headset that you need to charge until now. Plus I find whether on ps4 or xbox switch, the headset still works in xbox party chat lol. I've had them for a few months now, and only have been starting to wear them and they really get uncomfortable after a small amount of time (my top of my head was so sore and my ears hurt after 30-45mins of game play) and charge doesn't last at all. I've switched back to old turtle beach now, that I've had about 5 years and they are far more comfortable. I'm quite disappointed with turtle beach with these, as all my turtle beach headset have lasted me 5+ years (still got them all tbh, but just wanted to upgrade) and have been extremely comfy doing very long game session! (6hrs+ with no pain). I don't think I'll be buying turtle beach again sorry. I'm also a 20 something female, and have a small head and had them on the maximum expanded arm length and they still hurt?!
Fairly disappointed with this purchase. Having purchased previous Turtle Beach headphones in years past, I had high expectations of this set. What I've found is a sleak looking headset, not overly comfortable, far too much bass (great if you're intending on jamming out) and one that fails miserably in helping you determine the direction of your enemy (which the x12's did masterfully). Generally, you would assume a brand gets better with age; but, I'm not so sure with Turtle Beach and would have serious reservations about ever buying from them again.
This is a very awkward and straightforward up bad item. For me the earpieces are uncomfortable and the sound isn't amazing. The noise cancellation is some of the best I've ever experienced from a headset, but the sound quality takes precedence and its just not good.
The headset doesn't work on PC, and has a three-setting switch on it. PS4/OFF/XBOX. XBOX setting is godawful - lower volume and scratcher audio than PS4, but the PS4 setting works fine on XBOX as it js, even when speaking to people. Flicking between the two, firnds couldn't notice a difference in mic quality.
Volume is disgraceful. At highest volume I feel like it id be around 40%-50% of my previous headsets volume (admittedly though, a much more expensive model of Turtle Beach). The headset seems to muffle or just not pick up background sounds (including, annoyingly, a lot of lighter/quieter instruments/voices in music) it also drains controller batteries at an abhorrent level. Add to that screching interference down the mic when the connection between controller and console dips, and painful wars due to small ear pads and its just an all around bad time.
All in all, I would recommend getting a different headset if youre looking for a headset in this price bracket, or saving up for a better model. This is not the headset you will be happy with.
I've had these for about a couple of months and bought them when they were on a cheap deal to replace a cheap brand headset. I'm already seeing issues that I should only get in a year, and this is a headset from a reputable brand...
First look: The microphone monitor is nice to have but doesn't sound as good in Windows. Only using about 5-10%, why anyone would go beyond 15-20% deafening volume? Microphone & monitor mutes when placed away. Microphone isn't detected on a Mac, no reason for the Xbox switch...? Requires power. No 'low battery' warning so you tend to forget in VOIP calls or listening to music unless you're actively gaming/watching TV. Can feel uncomfortable over 3-4+ hours.
Couple months later: Microphone sometimes 'pops' when the headset is moved (to get comfortable), and annoying for VOIP calls. The pops cannot be heard over the monitor. Ground/USB power faults can cause static noise/buzzes. Headphone plastic is starting to become mishapped as if the headset is going to break soon from what I can only guess as if for 'planned obscelence' by using cheap plastic. There's 2 ridges at the top of the headset, one side is slightly raised now...?
Edit: If you get interference noise/buzzing whilst charging you can turn down the volume on the headset which will reduce the amplifier. Just change the volume on the PC/Xbox/etc to match. Still disappointing that this issue wasn't seen before production.
Overall: This headset clearly has amplification so it's a shame it couldn't be used for the microphone too. This headset should also support non-amplified listening (e.g. no battery). Almost all headset microphones sound terrible requiring +30db amplification, and manufacturers should really fix this... Now that most gamers have good internet there's no reason for a terrible microphone, especially for VOIP. If low bandwidth is required, leave this to the application to do so rather than adding a cheap microphone. You seem to pay more for the design of the microphone than microphone quality. If you can spare the cash and want to sound better, get a dedicated directional mic with a pop filter, and a studio/dj pair of headphones. They should last longer with better quality, and you can find some good quality mics/headphones that won't cost a fortune (and will likely be more cost effective than all the replacement headsets with passable quality.
I’ve been using this headset since May now, as of right now it’s September. I have bought from Turtle Beach the past few years, each of my headsets breaking very quickly. I bought this one expecting high standards as I read some of the good reviews, but they seemed to be wrong. Only a few months later, the headphones started to break. The headphones don’t work for me when I plug them into the jack, the audio isn’t so great and when you’re listening to music with them other people can hear it. The only good/decent thing about these are the mic. Otherwise, I don’t recommended buying them. These are the last head set I ever purchase from Turtle Beach as I haven’t found any that lasted long or worked well.
Bought these because the other Turtle Beach headset stopped working. Battery life is average, inference noise is a problem when charging and gaming at the same time. Always need to remember to leave it plugged in to overnight. Power/Selector switch is stupid because of the PS4 and Xbox settings on either side of the OFF position. And they cracked when I adjusted them to fit my head... poor quality materials or I my head is slightly bigger than I thought.
This headset has fantastic audio quality, and I've had zero complaints about the microphone. It's comfortable and pretty sleek,
However, and this is a big however, despite being wired this headset still needs charged - which baffles me. You have neither the care free attitude of a wired mic, or the mobility of a wireless one; you're plugged in anyway so why can the headset not use my controller or laptop for power?
"Well just charge it while you use it?" Well no. The charging cable is too short and to be honest I have no idea if that's even safe. Pretty annoying because to turn it off you move the switch into the middle, and sometimes in my frenzy of "I have work soon I need to stop playing this" I leave the headset on the "PS4" setting (It goes PS4 - Off - Xbox. I don't know why it seems to work either way) which subsequently means it is still using power - even if its disconnected.
Anyway, a great headset if you have the time to charge it; but for me I think this has let it down.
These were my first pair of gaming headphones, and i have heard that turtle beach was a reputable brand in gaming headsets (i was let down). The headphones sounded great but many small things with this headset makes it something to avoid. first of all the headset clamped onto my head too hard to the point where it was just uncomfortable, even though these are supposed to be in ear headphones these headphones act like over ear headphones and the excessive clamping really doesn't help. second, the mic is really quiet and this personally was a big problem for me as i am mostly a social gamer so if you are also someone who likes to talk to friends whilst playing then avoid this headset as the microphone quality is not good.Third, you have to charge the headphones and the switch to turn it off is very fiddly and so the headset is often left on hence draining the battery. Other than that the headphones are great, with good looks and a nice bassy sound. But the seemingly minor drawbacks add up and so i had to return them:(
Mine Lasted about 6 months before issues began, friends could not hear me , breaking up sound, then one ear lost all sound and the mic stopped working altogether , not a good experience , expected more than 6 months use, and thats only about 3 -4 hours a week gaming Avoid
This review is SPECIFICALLY FOR THE RECON 200 WIRED. Amazon is putting reviews for all the different headsets on this page. This mic was a pretty BAD decision for me. I bought it then realised you had to charge it. I have never experienced a wired headset that you need to charge. Also the cable for the thing broke within a month and you can’t just replace the cable . Apart from these two things the sound quality is INCREDIBLE and the headset is very very comfy and sits nice even on top of my glasses. I am still upset with my purchase.
