Have Zumo 660 on my adventure bike. Recently bought a dualsport (CRF250 Rally) for local rides, fishing, exploring etc and wanted a dedicated GPS. Figured it was similar/same as my other Garmin. It is, but just a bit better than the 660. The 396LMT-S has wifi so updating maps is easy. Bluetooth to phone, which I dont use as I have a Sena headset...but I bought the weather app ($7) or so I can see weather radar real time. Very cool. Same waypoint and routing as all Garmins, no surprise there. And if you didnt wonder before...yes there is a place for an SD card for Topo or whatever. The onboard maps are good enough for me to not NEED to get OSM’s installed. Pretty impressed. Came with Ram mounts.
This is the fourth Garmin product i have purchased. I have been using a Zumo 590 for the last 10 years and have been very happy with it. Unfortunately, I purchased the Zumo 396 late in the year and mounted it on my bike just in time to put the bike away for the season. I am looking at buying a mount for the Jeep(you have to buy this separately) so I can play with the new Zumo before the next riding season. I did ride to the gas station the other day and found the screen easy to see in the sunlight.
Does what it needs to. Bluetooth takes a bit of figuring out between phone and headset but once its done it is seamless. I thought it was missing some info screens but after using it for a week I found a lot were hidden or not immediately apparent. Overall it is good for what it is. It may take you some time to get used to it. Value for the money is a point. Once up a running I was very satisfied, but it makes you wonder if you can get a smart phone for about the same or less it seems over-priced,.I tried using a smartphone on a mount but it is not as safe as using this I find.
Just returned from 3500 km trip and this Garmin GPS worked very well. At one point it would not power up at all; had to hold the power button for 15 seconds and it re-set. Like the pop up when on the highway of actual image of sign for upcoming exit. Shows upcoming food and gas stations (a few were not in service).
I love this GPS . Used it today when was out and it alerted me of a accident that just happened and to avoid that area if posable . It is worth way more then what I paid for it and would highly recommend it.
