I'm really enjoying this game a lot more than I thought. The graphics are nice and for people that enjoy simulators will find that building a Martian colony is fun and addictive.
The only thing I didn't like it's the UI. The game was designed to be run on a PC and for that reason navigating the UI takes a while to get used to. The font size on display messages is also small even on big TVs. I still enjoy playing this game a lot and I'll be buying the season pass.
This really is a wonderful city-builder, but it’s brought down by numerous bugs.
Lots of things to micro-manage, with a great balance between in-dome and out-dome resources. Nice graphics and a basic, yet bare story.
On the downside, there is no tutorial, so be prepared to restart a few times after learning the mechanics.
The real bummer is the bugginess. Lots of problems with drones hitting invisible walls, environmental rocks that can’t be removed even though they are dutifully picked at for days in end, and graphic remnants that persist forever. After a colony reaches about 500 colonists, there is frequent and severe stuttering.
If the bugs can get worked out this game has tons of potential, even if it targets a niche crowd. I’d recommend waiting for a couple more patches.
6-22-18 - The devs have worked hard and fixed many of the worst bugs. Great work, keep at it. +1 Star
What could be said of this game beyond it being a city management game set on mars? As a city simulator, it is a rather tough challenge to keep it self sustained long enough to make a real difference, but that is where the enjoyment comes in; to see if one has what it takes to make an off-world colony successful. Of course, this doesn't come with any download codes for any of the expanded DLC, just the base game, but that doesn't make it any less of an experience. It took me three tries to get ahold of the finer details of colony management and expansion, but it is possible once one puts in the commitment. Though it has cut into my natural sleep cycle, especially since much of the game is a waiting game. Whether it is a waiting game to get an all important piece of technology or a slow train wreck would depend upon how one executes their game play.
I would only recommend this title for those who have good experience with 4X simulation games such as Sim City, Skylines or even Civilization.
I’m a gamer and here’s my review: Cons Non-intuitive controls No tutorial prior to first attempt More than three colors for drones would be better Pros Good time killer game Enjoyable details (colonists) Excellent re-playability Good soundtrack (radio stations) Satisfying trophies Strategic gameplay with supplies, demand, disasters, resources, people, & mysteries
I really enjoyed playing this game. One thing that bothered me though - why can't you win?!? Perhaps I'm just an idiiot but it felt like there was no option to win the game. I unlocked all research, beat the scenario, etc and the game just kept going on forever. I finally abandoned it.
A fun enough survival city builder game. Setting it on mars lets it make the whole city builder game have a fresh coat of paint with lots of interesting objectives that would related to terraforming and building a colony on another planet.
