1 star taken off due to no manual and case came cracked.
Great game so I can't fault it... However I miss the SNES, SEGA, N64 days when the cases were not a cheap piece of 0.00001mm plastic, with rarely a manual..
Everygame should be like the Witcher 3, thick manual, nice map etc . (Provided a map is useful)
Games when I was a kid had maps, bios of characters, sometimes a soundtrack cd.. with a nice sturdy case...now adays... Just cheap quality cases..rarely a manual, gaming just doesn't feel the same, even though the quality of games increase..
I suppose that's the push to get it all digital, no cases or hard copies, download everything..
Bandai Namco has decided to not release content in North America because it shows too much skin. Do not buy this game. This game is not complete and will never be. There are exclusive DLC items only available to Asia.
I know there are a lot of comparisons to Dark Souls with this game. I find these comparisons to be accurate, but not necessarily the based on the difficulty, but more the game play style and the camp fire system. So, take an easier Dark Souls, make it about vampires, and finally add in a great character creator inspired by anime and you have Code Vein.
Good character customization, bad combat experience. Extremely clunky, awkward hits.
Edited: I like the story, but when I tried to complete all achievements, a reputation rank of 30 was so hard to raise! Besides, the game got random crashes 7 times in total when I completed all (roughly 100 hours). It's hard to believe an XBOX game in 2019 still keeps crashing.
Edited: Original 3/5 (mostly due to crashing), after playing another Xbox game, I’d like to give this game 5/5. Because NieR is even worse (second playthrough battle sucks) and I think that one is the real 3/5.
This game has a nice dark souls touch to it which is a great thing. It's fun. There is no pvp. There is easy to find Co op though. A couple major flaws... First the game randomly crashes. Often. I've never had a console game crash like this... Combine that with very long loading screens (mine are up to 3 minutes long) and it quickly ruins the experience. It usually happens when you're 10-15 minutes deep into character customization so you get to start all over again or just give up. It also often crashes at the home point when you're walking or interacting with anything or anyone. If you're customizing your character, I'd save the game every minute or two so you don't lose the progress.
Fun character customization and art style, but the games controls (especially in combat) are INCREDIBLY clunky. Dodge/parry tends to be a 50/50 chance and spell usage requires multiple button presses for a single action. I can't recommend this game. It's frustrating and not worth the time. Played it once or twice and haven't found any motivation to come back to it. Planning on returning it.
I haven't quite completed the game yet, but I've made enough progress to put in a quick review. This game is super fun. The combat feels nice and fluid, the characters seem well designed, well voiced, and well written. Even the character creator is great, you can get pretty in depth with what you want your character to look like.
