Ok, I've been playing the Mass Effect series and got hooked on Mass Effect 3 and logged over 980 hours since March 21, 2012. At first I wasn't even going to buy this game because in the end of ME 3 they killed off Shepard. But I heard so many bad reviews on this, that I just had to see for myself. I shelled out only 11 bucks on this total including shipping. After playing it for myself my review is: ***Graphics: They don't even come close to ME 3. ME Andromeda (ME-A) looks Cartoonish / Puppetry at best They should've stuck with the ME3 graphics which far exceeds ME-A. The Gun fire sounds and weapon use was weak and needed refinement, ***Game Controls: The Game controls felt awkward compared to ME 3. They were simple but just had a strange setup. More on the level of ME 2 graphics if that at all. ****Story Line: It was "Ok" at best but needed more refinement. It was never entirely clear why they sought out a new home away from Earth. As we have left off in ME 3, mankind found solutions to major issues on Earth at the ending. What happened to change that? Over population? A major disaster dooming Earth? This gets a Poor mark. ****Game Play: The game format can be frustrating. It's of a free roaming style where as ME 3 was somewhat more restricted but far better structured. ****Over Rating: 2 Stars at most. I was expecting far better graphics than ME 3 and Game Play. The relation back to ME 3 during character setup was a joke and was never felt during game play. Experiment over, this game doesn't deserve space on my Xbox One and will be canned, Unfortunately the poor reviews were deserved for this "Rushed" game or poorly resourced game.
There were a lot of bad decisions surrounding this game, but what I really hated the most was the gunplay and jumping around. It just didn't feel like a Mass Effect at all. In the previous ME games I felt like a badazz. In this game I felt like a leaping spaz. Ugh, the jumping around, cover system, and gunplay is just awful. Andromeda should have evolved into something like Gears of War 4, but instead they broke everything and ended up with the worst Mass Effect to date. Unbelievable. 2 out of 5 stars.
This game was not the mass effect games you're use to. Although the fighting is good, the story and aliens are not creatively created as the last few games. Same aliens and the 2 new aliens aren't interesting enough to care about them. That may sound a bit nerdy but I loved mass effect for its creativity. Sadly the franchise has died.
Great concept. Terrible execution. Buggy. Landscape and planetary graphics are great, but characters are terribly low resolution and when speaking, it’s almost as if theres a delay. This issue has been well documented and scrutinized. EA is a terrible producer.
The games was very cheap so I decided to try it, saw mixed reviews. It took about 40 minutes to download and updates then the gameplay was boring so far. It may get better, I will update if it does. I found Titan Fall 2 here for $6 and loved it considering the price. Can't win them all
I love the mass effect games, but this one fell short.
The combat was fantastic. The dynamic movement and cover system was great. The powers and abilities were diverse and fun to use. Once you figure out how to effectively prime and combo you can really appreciate the physics engine the game runs on.. (;
The visuals for the most part are stunning, and the game offers a massive world with a lot to do
The shooting is subpar in my opinion. Some guns felt very random in there spread, even when fired slowly with careful aim, in contrast some felt overly accurate (for instance one of the n7 pistols can pretty much be used as a sniper) just inconsistent and frustrating until you find one you like.
A lot of the tasks were very repetitive. So many "do the exact same remedial task on all the planets" gets old. I understand that that is one of the downsides of a massive game world like this, but you would think with how long this was in development they could have made fresh tasks for each world
The party system takes a big step back from mass effect 3. The biggest issue I have is it rarely if ever actually effects the character development. It doesn't matter who you bring, it doesn't change your character's interactions at all. If a character has something to say about part of a mission and you didn't bring them, they just convieniently chime in on the comms. Personally I hate this, mass effect used to reward you for careful teammate selection and increased the replay value by having dialogue and choices that were restricted to who you brought with you, so I see this as a major step back.
The AI for your teammates isn't terrible good either. Learn to use the command features for your teammates early or learn to win fights without them. You can't switch to a teammate like you could before, so they are completely restricted to the AI
THE BIGGEST FLAW:
Mass effect games at their core have always been about choices and consequences. In the old games even small decisions could have huge ramifications, so you always wanted to think about each decision. Over the course of the game your character really evolved based on your choices, to the point where you really were invested in your Sheppard as a person. The paragon and renagade system even let you dictate your morality, and game you a nice meter to base where your character was at.
This game throws all that out. Your choices really don't feel like they have any impact at all. I won't spoil any of the ending stuff, but I played through the game twice trying to make my two pathfinders as opposite as possible and almost everything felt the same. The dialogue choices hardly even change, and there isn't even a paragon or renagade system in place so I hope you like being the good guy/gal.
Obviously if they make future installments to this series some of this could be fixed, but as a stand alone game the choices in andromeda matter very little. As such I didn't feel as attached to my characters as I did with Sheppard, and never really felt like there were those "big moments" where the decision you make is going to really change the game one way or another like the old mass effects.
Also the multiplayer is terrible and never really works. So don't buy it for that.
I was highly disappointed in this game after so much hype. In particular I just could not get over the horrible controls. Caused me so much grief when attempting to hide behind obstacles. The playable areas also just seemed so closed in ...
I was a big fan of the mass effect series of games. They are different and a lot of fun. This one missed the mark though. I am very busy with my job, so I do not get a lot of time to game. This is the type of game where you need to commit at least 90 per sitting to. You can't turn it on and play for 30 min because you won't get anything done. Just not for me.
