Physically fit and the molding/install is pretty good - but keep in mind the N64 games were designed for a certain hardware. I did not keep this in mind. There was a lot less of a deadspot than the worn out one, but the opposite problem became immediately evident. The gradation of signal feedback with movement out-from-centre is too sensitive for what the games are expecting. So now things like aiming in goldeneye are too sensitive to perform. Maybe you would have better luck if you have considerably more delicate thumbs than me, but I doubt it.
Put simply, fine controller movements were not possible after the installation. Games not playable with that controller. Now if you are building your own device and were able to fine tune the signal gradiant (provide a user adjustable variable I'd recommend) then this would work perfectly well.
Is it better than a completely shot, worn out stick? Yes. FPS are pretty much unplayable....(Golden Eye, Perfect Dark) The large deadzone and then super sensitivity causing over-aiming and having to re-correct constantly. Barrel Rolling in Waverace is almost impossible due to the deadzone. Chameleon Twist is a mess due to falling off platforms and inability to accurately utilize the tongue. I did notice that it was "OK" for some games Wrestlemania 2000, WWE No Mercy, Mario Party.....because they don't require much use of the stick. I'd rate it a 5 out of 10. Works, but not well, decent design and build quality but the deadzone and sensitivity makes this a backup controller.
It's not just high sensitivity, it's uncontrollable sensitivity with a rather large dead zone. Try playing Star Fox 64 with this stick and you'll never fly or aim where you want. You move the stick trying to turn slowly but nothing happens. Then BAM full strength movement. I'm honestly not sure what game would benefit from such a extremely sensitive stick.
there's two main issues with this stick: too large of a deadzone and it's way too sensitive. it's nearly impossible to perform any subtle movements with it. I tested it with f-zero x and it made the game borderline unplayable because the slightest movement of the stick sends your machine into a drift, causing you to lose all your speed if it wasn't intentional. it might be an alright replacement if you're playing games where precise analog control isn't all that important, but for any other game you're better off trying to repair the stock analog stick with grease, tape, string, or whatever else.
Like other have said, this joystick is too sensitive. Some say there is two versions, I must have got the bad one. Played some Mario 64 and it was doing ok, until i had to make some fine adjustments on a cannon and saw how bad it is. So I decided to clean the original joystick and it is now a lot better. I should have done that from the start. Overall I don't like this joystick but it could work on some game I suppose.
Installation is easy, I would say instructions aren't needed - only 12 screws in total. It fits well. I had this installed in about 5 minutes. I quickly went and started up playing rogue squadron, and was instantly disappointed. The high sensitivity is not the problem, its the gigantic dead zone that makes subtle movements impossible. It was immediately apparent I would not be able to really play this game since subtle movements were nearly impossible - the dead zone felt to be about 1/3rd the total movement of the joystick in one direction. However, if you always completely tilt the joystick, this is great.
Really good and has smooth movement, but can only last a couple of months before the joystick starts bugging out. Bought 3 and 2 of them have issues moving to the right on its own. Not a issue with dirt or anything, just does it on its own without having to touch the controller. If you do buy this just know that it isn't practical for daily use. The last one I have I rarely use and it still works fine.
