Andrey Kneller here gives us a good selection of poetry by four of the giants of Russian poetry in the 20th Century. We have poems by Boris Pasternak, Anna Akhmatova, Osip Mandelstam, and Marina Tsvetaeva. For those new to Russian poetry this book would make a nice introduction, and take you into a new world, where although poetry often has the same as here we also have ones that show the effects of a cruel and brutal regime.
Although there is no active table of contents showing in the menu there is in fact one at the very beginning of this book, however this will only take you to the English translations. As well as the translations which are really what the vast majority of people will be downloading this for, we also have the original poems in Russian. The poems are set out by the poet, and before each section is a brief paragraph about each poet.
In all I found this a very pleasurable and thoughtful read, that I know I will be coming back to again and again.
A great representative selection of the Russian Avant Garde---Cyrillic alongside the English. If you are interested in learning more about some of the Slavic world's greatest poets, "The Four of Us" is a solid introduction. The volume is slim and quite portable---fit's nicely in handbag or book bag.
