Honestly, at first this controller was not a dissapointment. It came in a beautiful box that was difficult to open, so I could not salvage the box since I had completely obliterated it trying to open it. The controller looks amazing and almost represents an Xbox 360/Xbox One controller button-wise. The buttons are in the same place as an Xbox controller, just the letters are in different spots. I especially liked the texture of the controller. It had a nice and sleek mat finish that felt very comfortable in your hand.
BUTTONS & FEEL
The buttons for the most part felt good at first, yet the L and R buttons felt very mushy and unnatural. Sometimes they would even get stuck. As an example, if you pushed it, it would stay down and not come up unless you manually pulled it up. The same would happen with other buttons such as the A,B,X,Y but those didn't give too much trouble. In my time of having it, it only occurred once. But that is still pretty bad considering I had this controller for less than a month. The most noticeable fault in this controller was the poor building of it. It looks like a quality controller but is not. I've had this controller for less than a month and do not play vigorously on it. I did not play Call of Duty or anything. And one day, I was going to play some Need for Speed Most Wanted U, and when I pressed down lightly on the analog sticks, they sank into the controller. It wasn't a huge problem but I was able to see the interior of the controller when it went down. I dealt with this and did not really care that this happened but I am returning this controller for a major reason. One day after playing some Bayonetta 2, I put my Nyko Pro Controller down on the stand for night, everything in good shape on the controller. When I woke up, it hadn't moved, but the bottom right analog stick was basically sticking to the left. When I moved it in a direction as soon as I let go it would go to the left. You had to hold it hard to keep it in place. When I went to play Hyrule Warriors, I tried turning the bottom right analog stick to analyze my environment and I could not play without it always looking to the left. This made games unplayable with the controller. I tried fixing this and couldn't. I contacted Nyko, and they told me they would send me an email as a reply. I received nothing.
When this controller was working, it worked decently well, but the buttons glitching and sticking all the time just did not make a good impression on me. It was not ideal for gameplay and I just tried the official Nintendo Wii U Pro Controller and it was much better with none of the problems the Nyko Pro Commander had.
The Nyko Pro Commander tries to lure you in with it's beautiful looks, but it's looks are deceiving. This controller does not function well and I would not recommend it to anyone. If you have it, then I feel for you.
The official, 1st party Nintendo Wii U Pro Controller is a much more viable option as a controller. It may have a higher price than the Nyko Pro Commander but you get what you pay $50.00 for. I realize why the Nyko Pro Commander was $35.00 It was a good looking controller that tried to lure people, and dissapoint with it's many faults.
NYKO PRO COMMANDER SCORE
It's okay if you do not mind all these faults and sticking controls and buttons that make it very difficult to play, but when this does not occur, it offers okay gameplay. Nothing great. The Nintendo Wii U Pro Controller is much better and I recommend it. The main thing preventing me from giving the Nyko Pro Commander from giving it a 1/5 stars is it's outstanding looks.
I bought this controller because I thought that I needed an "Xbox 360ish" controller for my Wii U. However, I should have avoided this controller. This controller is WAY TO SENSATIVE and it completely depends on what game you are playing. I bought this controller for COD and for any other future shooters for the Wii U, but after spending about 6 hours with controller I just couldn't stand it anymore. The left and right sticks have no smoothness to them. They go from slowely moving about to full on sprinting in with no middle in between. No matter how I tweaked the setttings it just didn't matter, I couldn't get it to work. I find this controller completely unusable for me. I'm sorry, but I coudn't reccomend this controller to any of my fellow Wii U owners. I went and purchased a Wii U Pro Controller right after this and I fell in love with how perfect that controller is, please spend the extra cash for the supperior experience.
This is the type of joystick layout I prefer, but since most nintendo and 3rd party mfg are making the layout with both joysticks at the top I wanted to find something that was more intuitive to my play style. This controller worked great...for about 3 weeks...now the left joystick has no sensitivity to it. Meaning a slight push to the right, left, up, or down means full tilt making selection options in menus impossible since a slight tap moves the cursor 2 or 3 spots. I lived with that for about 8 hours of gameplay. Then the B and Y buttons decided to share the same function, both as B. Now any Y inputs don't register on command (little pun there) except randomly when spamming the Y button. Unfortunately I can't recommend this product.
At first I thought I had found a great solution for my friends when playing Mario Kart 8. One of them arrived with a broken analog stick, I sent it back and the replacement seemed fine.
But then after charging them fully and playing with a friend, they both lost their charge very quickly. So we can to keep them plugged in which is a bit annoying. Then they started having lag, for a few seconds during the games the console simply didn't detect any input. It was as if they disconnected for a few seconds and reconnected mid-game.
This happened to both of the controllers I bought, after a few days of this I sent them back and decided to just buy a few of the official Wii U Pro Controllers, they work flawlessly. Pay the extra money, get the official controller.
Great price if they work for you, but after 3 failing on me I sent them back and don't regret it.
I bought this when I first bought my Wii U because I wanted a pro controller, and this seemed like a good (cheaper) alternative to the Nintendo pro controller. I really liked it at first. It feels very sturdy, not flimsy or cheap like some third-party game controllers. The grips have an interesting shape, but they sit very well in my hands. The buttons all feel durable, and are laid out similar to an Xbox controller, which makes for a comfortable gaming session.
My issue with this controller is that it stopped functioning correctly after 3-4 months of use. Now, it is only possible to use it when it is plugged into the power cable. This might not be that big of a deal, but the power cable that comes with it is only about 3 feet long (other similar cables, like a USB phone charger or the charger for the gamepad, are incompatible). When the controller is not plugged it, it simply doesn't turn on, period. I wish this wasn't the case, because I really like this controller otherwise, but as is now, it's pretty unusable.
Pros: -Although a little small in the hands, it still feels great to hold -Good texture and grip -Layout similar to a 360 controller -Great price
Cons: -Will only work when plugged in and charging
After reading many of the reviews, it sounded like getting one of these controllers was a gamble. At the price point it's extremely tempting considering it's about $30 less than a pro controller. I gambled and lost. The controller only works while it is plugged in, but as soon as I pull out the charging cable, the controller turns off and pressing the power button does absolutely nothing. I'm guessing it shouldn't do that after charging for 4+ hours. However, if you're lucky enough to get one that works, the controller functioned fine, felt good in the hands, and synced up no problem.
I've had this for a couple of months and randomly it will be slow to respond to button presses. I don't know why. It works well most of the time, but probably about 10% of the time the controller just doesn't respond quickly and I have to reset everything and hope it fixes (sometimes it does) This is very annoying. I contacted Nyko and they basically said I had to pay to have it shipped to their factory for "review and potential repair"...not even worth it for a product at this price.
Secondly, you can tell the controller is cheap. The buttons are not uniform and they feel plastic, there isn't a consisstantcy in the build quality either.
Overall a weak product, probably best would be waiting for the official controller to go on sale.
Either something is off with the control sticks or something is wrong with the A,B,Y,X buttons or both.
-Trying to run requires holding Y and a direction on the controller. Sometimes my character quits running, or does the Y action 2-3 times instead. I Have not had this problem with my Wii U Gamepad. -One time while playing Mario 3D World, my character started walking one way without me touching the controller, and holding the opposite way only stopped him. This was with fresh batteries after playing for approximately an hour and I haven't been able replicated it but it was very frustrating.
It's not great, I'd be glad I saved money by buying this but the fact it doesn't work without issue bothers me.
Don't play anything that requires alot of button pressing for long periods of time, Like Ninja Gaiden. You with regret it and your GamePad skills will diminish. You will then Attempt to improve the controller by Ripping off the Joystick rubbers and it will help but then later when you will realize that the buttons are so bad you will try to open up the controller and it is at that point the the controller gets torn to shreds deals with a mountain of hate and gets washed in the sink to avoid syncing to your wii u while in the Trash can. I'm Practically Begging Nintendo for a Pro GameCube Wii U controller at this point
