This PS3 super slim is a great games console and it works fantastically for playing games. There are only two problems that I have found playing this console. One is that the hard drive is a little bit slow on installing games, especially big 6-8gb ones which can take 30minutes. The second problem is the most severe and I would go as far as saying that it is a bit of a design flaw. My reason for this is because the HDMI port is located at the rear of the console in the centre, in between the cooling fans. After 10 minutes of games or even downloading. These cooling fans blow warm air out of the back and onto the HDMI cable. I have had to replace several cables because they have warped from the heat and no longer work. I am a little bit let down by these problems which distract me from fully enjoying this machine, however Apart from these problems I am really happy with the console. 7/10
Product was actually a 250g & not 500g as advertised (contacted vendor/seems they were unaware HDD was swapped/were going off Model#...cant recall if I got a partial refund or not TBH, tho kept as good luck finding a working PS3 these days as is...THANKS for nixxing Back-Compatibility, SCEA - one of MANY reasons this is last gen of console am buying/forced PS+ to play online being another).
Physically it was in good shape, runs & reads disks well in general. From day 1 it pops an error EVERY time I try to load/sync/update trophies tho...which is odd but they sync newest trophies 1st/DOES update when look at PSN on other device after anyway, so not as big an issue as half the gigs expected. Dropped a star for each or would give full 5 tho.
...I DID buy another 500g from another vendor JIC, but this one does still run, to be fair.
Nice size, I am hoping they have improved the reliability compared to the original 'fat' PS3 but we will see.
Smaller size = good, fits under TV easier. Bigger hard disk = good, and sensible since disks are so cheap now.
2 x USB ports = bad. Seriously, how expensive are USB ports? No excuse for cutting the amount of ports. No more PS2 support = bad. Why remove support when it used to be there? A cynical attempt to get you to buy new games, the machine has the ability as the original version had it, but they remove it for the slim versions. I expect that kind of stuff from Microsoft. No way to copy over content or save games from old faulty PS3 = Bad, I understand encryption to prevent copying, but the new PS3 is registered with same user details as the old one was, surely you should be able to connect the old hard disk up with a USB caddy and read it? No.
Summary: too many sacrifices for the sake of a cheaper price. No option to buy a fully featured model any more either, budget spec or nothing. This is a backward step not an improvement.
