I bought this game for $10 during an amazon sale and that is about what it's worth to be honest. The controls are kind of funky (the sprint button is down on the d-pad which is slightly awkward at first to get used to) the graphics are not great by far and I got the platinum trophy for this game in under a week. For the price, it was a cool game to play but anything above that and it's not worth it.
Horrible game. Shooting mechanics are bad, graphics are bad (even for mobile standards), and the online community is 100% non-existent at this point. The Story is laughably bad, played about an hour and then gave up.
Don't spend much more than about $10 on this game. The story is short, the multiplayer is boring, and you'll PLATINUM the entire game in about 6 hours. I was so surprised when I saw the Platinum trophy notification message appear in the upper-right corner of the Vita's screen.
I won't lie. I did have some fun with this game, but the story is way too short and the enemies are way too easy to kill for me to recommend this title.
Got my copy yesterday, the delivery service as usual was very fast and reliable. The game is nice, please take notice that this was one of the PSVita's first games, so it's not as refined as other shooters, but the game has it's own charm.
My only issue is that the included online pass already expired on 3/31/2014 and that only pass is worth $9.99 on the PSN Store, so please take notice that if you want to use the online component, you're going to have to pay extra. I already had a chat with Sony Customer Service and they told me to ask Amazon for a refund.
Resistance: Burning Skies is a solid FPS. If you were waiting for one before buying the Vita - its a totally acceptable FPS experience. Besides taking little advantage of the Vita's amazing input capabilities (like rear touch pad and gyroscope) the game has one SERIOUS and MAJOR FLAW - The unskippable cutscenes.
The Vita is a mobile gaming device - hop on a train, bus, find a seat turn it on and start gaming. Well not until you wait a full 1 minute 30 seconds for the "Touch to start screen" then watch a fairly long opening film that is unskippable, which makes no sense to me - why can't I skip the history lesson, especially if I've seen it before?
Time to start playing in the first scenes? About 3 minutes!
About half way through the game there is a checkpoint where your character is about to fight on the George Washington Bridge. If you pause the game - go to the Sony dashboard to play another game - and then come back to play a "quick" game of Resistence - you have to watch cutscenes all over again.
I actually timed it - 4 minutes 17 seconds! Over four minutes of just waiting to start the game action? That has to be a record!
No Ad-hoc multiplayer. Obvious indicators of rushed game design through out, as well as a flat, dissapointing story. Haven't tried the online multiplayer, from what I hear though, it's nothing to buy the game for. Honestly, as far as shooters go, I'd just wait to see how well Black Ops Declassified goes later this year, because Unit 13 and Resistance have both been pretty dissapointing. I don't know what is up with game designers these days, but they used to take pride in their product. Unit 13 also has no multiplayer, and no ad-hoc co-op. The only legitimate shooters on the PSP, Resistance: Retribution and Fireteam Bravo 3, have been taken off the PSN store. Why? Peace Walker was taken out of the MGS: HD pack. Why?
If you love the series, you might feel like $40 is worth it. But to me, the storyline and cutscenes seem really weak for the series.
Pros: Its the first FPS game to use the controls of the vita successfully, without feeling forced.
Cons: AI seems unintelligent even at harder difficulties. (They take a while to attack) Enemies jump between 3-4 spots (always the same ones). So head-shots are easy if you are patient. Never felt like my character was going to die. The storyline is weak, and doesn't seem important to the story of the Resistance franchise. The world seems too linear, and killing enemies doesn't give any feeling of accomplishment. The graphics aren't that great... not even compared to a PSP game
Haven't tried multiplayer, but I'm hoping it is more challenging then the single-player storyline.
If you buy this for <$20 it might feel worth it. The only enjoyment I got from this game was throwing my axe into a chimera.
