A little confession first. I suck at platforming. But I was able to play and enjoyed the Uncharted series so I found this and thought, why not. I missed out on this series when it first came out so, while an old game, it was new to me.
There are some sections where I have been so frustrated, I have nearly just quit. And I am a bit of completionist so I don't give up on games. The camera/controls are absolutely terrible and I had to rely on youtube guides just to know what to do. There are virtually no clues given to let you know what you are suppose to do. Not intuitive at all. And then once you know what to do, you can't do it. If this is what it was like for gamers in the old days, I pity them.
Some of my problems may be equipment since my controller is showing some age and the left joystick (PS3) tends to stick and is a bit sloppy from just being worn out.
So you take it all together (I suck, bad game camera/controls and worn out controller) has made for a pretty miserable experience. I'd give it one star but since I know some of it is just me, it gets 2 stars.
I am a first-time Tomb Raider player. I will give my brief impression of the 3 games here.
Anniversary: Might have been really good when it came out back in the day, but it shows its age. The controls are awful, definitely the worst of the 3 games in this collection. I had to struggle to do some very basic jumps, and the game can be really unforgiving of slight mis-alignments. Modern games are a little more forgiving, I find. The game overall was OK, but I found myself really eager for it to end. 3 stars.
Legend: A little more fun than Anniversary, with better controls, but still has problems. I encountered a game-ending glitch near the end, something that was present in the first versions of the game and has not been fixed! How can you re-release a game with serious game-ending glitches you've known about for years? Anyway, a simple re-load solved the glitch, but the bigger problem was the amount of time I spent not even knowing it was a glitch, wandering around this place trying to figure out how to progress. Unacceptable for the game to be re-released with this glitch and unacceptable for there not to be a patch. 2 stars.
Underworld: Worst camera work of the 3 games by far. Professional reviewers commented on the jittery and obnoxious camera, and it gave me loads of problems. Controls have generally been improved again. Better story than the others, up until the point I got to. I encountered a game-breaking glitch that cannot be solved with a simple re-load. The official solution from the publisher is to re-load an earlier save, but I don't have one (silly me for trusting the game). In that case, my only solution is to re-start the entire game. Not gonna happen, I'm done. My research taught me that this has been a known issue since its original release in 2008, and was not fixed for this re-release. See comments for Legend above about how unacceptable this is. Completely unacceptable. 1 star.
