This game is original by introducing the DC characters, but like many combat games it becomes repetitive after some time. I would have like more playables characters too. The story is not very complex and does not really represent Mortal Kombat: If you play the story mode you will find that this game should be called "Unconscious Combat" instead of "Mortal Kombat"... Anyway, can be a source of funny moves. The Joker is a very funny character, but Catwoman should'nt even be there.
It gets 3 stars just for being able to use the characters you can, but all in all it doesn't really make you want to play it like some of the other mortal kombat games. It's neat to be able to have the DC universe interact with the Mortal Kombat universe but it's overall a lacking game. Paying about $9 for it I dont feel so bad.
I have several nieces and nephews, the ones 9-13 yrs of age thought this game was cool. However, my 14-16 year old nephews thought it was dumb. Of course their parents allow them play the adult Mortal Kombat version so I'm not surprised. But hey, I'm "Auntie" and it's my home so I say "Age appropriate games only!" Everyone thinks differently, but the rules I've found to work best for both kids and adults are: (1) No more than two hours of video game playing every other day (2) Must be age Appropriate and (3) All games must be Multiplayer (kids always fight if not). The graphics on this game are appropriate for teenagers, but those teens being allowed to play adult R-rated video games will find this tame by comparison and might not want to play it.
The characters look awesome, but the gameplay is very... heavy, if that makes sense. The characters move real slow, and the overall feeling is that it is tiresome to look at it. I haven't finished the story mode and i dont plan on finish it any time soon.
I can say that my friends that are into Mortal Kombat kinda like this game. I mean they DO play it sometimes.
Overall, we have two children living in our household. The 9 year old wanted this game, naturally the 8 year old wanted to play it also. This is much like a pillow fight compared to other Mortal Kombat games. This one has a lower rating due to lower graphical violence. That being said it obviously isn't free from violence, I like how the DC comic book characters are in this version also. It helps to "fiction"-it-up a bit, although it's not like any characters in Mortal Kombat were ever real.
