When I fist got this, I struggled. I was trying to cut a circle in mount board in one swoop. This causes it to tear, jolt and cause an awful finish.
After doing research, I found that the circle should be created gradually and over a few rotations. This works much better and the finish is perfect.
It is quite fiddly and takes a while to really feel at home with it, but it really is simple to use once you know what you are doing. It comes with a spare blade which is handy and it has a protector to cover the blade when not it use.
It only loses 1 start because the 'handle' is quite small and holding it between my finger and thumb is quite awkward. This aside, brilliant product, I recommend it.
I purchased the circle cutter to cut the wheel well out of my rc car body shell. It was simple to use and to ensure a neat cut through the polycarbonate I had to do light repeated cuts with the compass cutter until I could simply pull the cut out from the body shell. Had I tried to cut through the shell in one sweep I fear I may have torn or ripped the plastic..
Only slight issue is that the rubber stability disk that comes with this has an x engraved into it to identify the middle of where you want your compass point to be.. mine however was off center. it didn't affect my use of this tool but it may yours so just a heads up.
so cheap .. choice of blades.. stable and sharp enough to cut through my rc car body (polycarbonate) with ease and gave a really neat finish.
Reading some of the reviews I knew there will be a knack to using this cutter. It is fairly hard to use. The lack of numbering on the measures makes it inefficient. The knack to use is when cutting paper turn the paper instead of turning the cutter. It does require some pressure or weight as do most blades, no matter how sharp they are, but there is little weight in the cutter so you have try guess the weight and pressure to use efficiently. There is a small circular disk that in application keeps the centre point stable and protects the paper, provide it faces in the correct direction. There is no instructions supplied but they would probably be in Japanese anyway. It will only score cardboard and heavier material. If you are not using on paper don't bother purchasing. 150mm is the max diameter. It is what it is worth the price perhaps not! A scissors will do a better decent job. Might be better off making one with a piece of wood, a nail a screw and a stanley blade!
This is a great quality item. The plastic it's made of is strong and it handles firmly as an cutting tool. It comes with spare blades and a little pad to put the needle on so you don't get a hole in your work (although the needle will eventually make it's way through the plastic pad). All the circles I cut were perfect, the blade doesn't move off kilter while cutting. And you can cut with a really light touch too. This is SO much better than the Jakar one I bought which was poor quality and useless as it moves while cutting.
Wow! This thing works better than I was expecting! It's great at cutting perfect circles through paper or thin card. The cutting blade is exceptionally sharp. It comes with spare blades and a rubber disc for when you don't want to put a hole through the middle of the circle you are cutting. These are conveniently stored in a plastic guard.
I've given this product 4 stars because I am disappointed that there is no accurate way to measure the radius of the circle you plan to cut. Instead you need to use your own rules to measure the distance from the pivot point to blade.
Excellent and does the job. To stop the centre point moving I put a piece of sellotape where I push the point. Cuts very accurately with no 'wandering' of the centre point. I have not tried the rubber center foot so cannot comment on that. Good piece og kit
This is a great product. I used it on gold card and it cut through with little effort. The adjustment is strong - I cut 50 circles and the radius never slipped. I used the centrepoint hole to enable me to cut one side of the card then locate the cutter on the other side, to avoid any rough edges. The cutter had pretty well cut through from one side so this was easy. It does only cut clockwise, which I took a few attempts to realise!
Excellent little tool - it works really well and is easy to use. I suppose the only thing that could be done to improve it would be to have a wheel to adjust the radius of the cut (as you find on micrometers). Even without this I was able to cut very accurate 75mm discs through multiple sheets of thick paper. So, great tool, well made, easy to use, inexpensive, and it arrived very quickly (in two days, one day before the estimated arrival).
The cutter is quite small and a bit fiddly to use. It takes a bit of practise to get the hang of it, especially when you cut small circles. The knife cuts only well in one direction, which can be a bit uncomfortable for your wrist after a while. The blade itself is sharp and cuts well through normal paper and light card. It will leave a small hole in the middle though, which is a bit of a shame, but just due to the nature of the cutter.
