Msr stoves are great products, and as ever they deserve 5 stars, but this pump doesn't fit my old stove, they are the same product number but where the stove is pushed in is of a different diameter. My mistake although a costly one, at least I haven't found out before it was too late.
Order new style pump for 26 year old xgk stove. Top plunger tabs finally snap pump body lock slots. First new pump delivery was missing pump cup. No problem just used old leather cup. On/off valve was so tight I thought I would break it. Took apart and found O ring not in proper groove on shaft. Plug pump bottle into stove and primed with primer paste. Pumped up bottle while waiting on pre-heat and instant fire ball and bottle on fire. Valve was off. Leaked everywhere. Amazon replacement sent next day. Great customer service. New pump worked perfectly with precheck of operation. These plastic pumps still inferior to European and some Chinese reversed engineering stoves. I'm only using my stove during ranch chores and elk hunting as my global traveling days are over now close to 70 years. Stove still working great. 4th pump in 26 years. Wish they would just engineer a better pump.
I was very happy to finally get my 30-year-old WhisperLite working again. HOWEVER, the new valve is basically ON/OFF. There was no increasing the flame, and more importantly (to me), it was impossible to reduce the flame for simmering or other lower heat needs. All or nothing. Kinda frustrating...
I upgraded a perfectly functioning old style unit b/c, you know. I was expecting better fine adjustment b/c one of my cooks is a 3 cup bialetti, didn't get it. it is one millimeter of rotation of the valve between sputtering and full blast. durability? probably gonna be fine but i'm not getting rid of the old one. no way.
Has about the same Rick rickety plastic quality as the original which broke after a few years of use. At least the plunger seems a bit stronger this time. However the adjustment knob is much flimsier than the cast aluminum knob we had before. And it's much harder to control, it seems to only go from 0 to 100 with almost nothing in between whereas the original pump had finer control.
This replacement does not fit my old Whisperlite. When I put it on the unit leaked fuel even after I changed the O rings on the bottle and cleaned the stove. From now on I'll stick to canister stoves though they add more bulk to the pack.
