Is running a marathon with your partner a wise idea?
What about taking part in a triathlon together?
George is about to find out as he and his wife Rachel put their marriage to the test.
Now settled into life in Devon with their three children, they try to encourage a more active family lifestyle with camping holidays, family bike rides, hill-walking and canoe trips. But things rarely go smoothly.
Meanwhile, George continues to set himself ridiculous challenges. Having been a complete novice swimmer only a year earlier, he decides to confront his incompetence head-on.
By signing up for a 10km swim.
How hard can it be?
Anyone reading George’s books hoping for useful training tips for their own adventures and challenges might be disappointed. His training methods and pre-race preparations are unconventional and perhaps not recommended, but there might be some nuggets of unintentional wisdom amongst the chaos.
Did Not Finish is a series of books about George and his family’s adventures in running, cycling and swimming. From ultramarathons to triathlons, 10k swims to European cycling adventures, George promises fun and laughter every step, pedal, and paddle of the way.

“…I laughed, I cried, and am proud of a man I have never met…”
Operation Ironman follows George Mahood’s hilarious and inspiring journey from a hospital bed to an Ironman triathlon. After major back surgery, George set himself the ultimate challenge –
a 2.4 mile swim,
a 112 mile bike ride,
and a 26.2 mile run,
all to be completed within 16 hours.
He couldn’t swim more than a length of front crawl, he had never ridden a proper road bike, he had not run further than 10k in 18 months... and he had never worn Lycra.
He had FOUR months to prepare.
Could he do it?
In the middle of the wettest winter since records began, George and Mark have to cope with treacherous cliffs, flooded trails, injuries, inverted waterfalls, too much food and too much mud.
This short, quick read picks up where Operation Ironman left off and is the prequel to the DNF Series.
The DNF Series is a series of books about George and his family’s adventures in running, cycling and
swimming. From ultramarathons to triathlons, 10k swims to European cycling adventures, George
promises fun and laughter every step, pedal, and paddle of the way.
”...had me laughing from beginning to end...”
“...a strangely mesmerising read..."
“...loved the book - funny and engaging...”
George Mahood had a nice, comfortable life.
He had a job, a house, a wife and three kids. But he was stuck in a routine. Every day was the same and he felt that something was missing.
He then discovered that it was Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day. The day after that was National Pillow Fight Day, and the day after that was Work Naked Day.
George realised the calendar is FULL of these quirky, weird, and wonderful celebrations. He realised that somebody somewhere had created these holidays, believing them to be important enough to warrant their own official day.
Surely, he should be more appreciative of their existence?
So… he decided to try and celebrate them all.
Follow George on his hilarious, life-changing adventure, as he tries to transform himself into a happier, more intelligent and well-rounded person.
It’s a rip-roaring, life-affirming, roller-coaster of a ride, where every day is a holiday.

“…reminds me of Bill Bryson…”
“…a must-read for all wannabe adventurers…”
“…brilliant writing yet again…”
“…hilarious read from beginning to end…”
Knee-deep in a swamp in the depths of the Bolivian jungle, hunting for anacondas in a pair of sandals, it occurred to George that perhaps he should have booked that all-inclusive honeymoon to the Maldives after all.
Join George and Rachel on their hilarious and action-packed journey through the wilds of Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, as they climb volcanoes, fish for piranhas, trek through the Amazon rainforest, take death-defying bus rides, sample some of the continent’s strangest delicacies, and try to get to Machu Picchu.
Armed only with a basic knowledge of Spanish, small backpacks, and bags of enthusiasm, George and Rachel’s honeymoon ended up being a more life-changing adventure than either of them could ever have anticipated.

Two Brits, George and Mark, set off from New York City to explore the back roads of America. In this calamity-ridden travel tale, George sets out in true clichéd fashion to discover the real America.
Throw in plenty of run-ins with the police, rapidly dwindling finances and Josephine – the worst car in the world - and you have all the ingredients for a classic American road trip. Will George and Mark make it all the way to California?
And then there is Rachel, George’s girlfriend, left back in England. Would travelling to the United States without her turn out to be the stupidest decision he had ever made?

The plan is simple. George and Ben have three weeks to cycle 1000 miles from the bottom of England to the top of Scotland. There is just one small problem… they have no bikes, no clothes, no food and no money. Setting off in just a pair of Union Jack boxer shorts, they attempt to rely on the generosity of the British public for everything from food to accommodation, clothes to shoes, and bikes to beer.
During the most hilarious adventure, George and Ben encounter some of Great Britain's most eccentric and extraordinary characters and find themselves in the most ridiculous situations. Free Country is guaranteed to make you laugh (you may even shed a tear). It will restore your faith in humanity and leave you with a big smile on your face and a warm feeling inside.
The year begins positively with George and Rachel running every single street of their local town. Just days before the country goes into lockdown, they take on the 20 miles of the Grizzly. A race so muddy that firefighters are stationed at the finish line to hose down runners.
Then the year takes a dramatic turn.
Food shortages, homeschooling, quiet roads, home haircuts, yoga, Rachel’s new marathon a month challenge and a walking holiday… in a different part of Devon.
2020 is a year none of them will ever forget.

Two different cycling adventures in France follow.
One a race against time.
The other a race against wine.
To celebrate his milestone birthday, George and Rachel take on their longest run yet - 40 miles along Britain’s oldest road.
There’s yoga, a funeral, self-imposed running and swimming challenges, and a marathon with the hangover from hell.
A new hairy, four-legged addition to the Mahood family brings more fun, adventure… and rosettes.

But to get the gold hat, he has to swim it twice.
Despite the trauma of the previous year’s Dartmoor Classic, George and Rachel sign up again. This time the weather takes a turn for the worse and Rachel is forced to make some creative wardrobe improvisations.
Having completed several long bike rides, George now considers himself a relatively experienced cyclist.
On the road.
Off-road riding, however, is something completely unfamiliar to him. His body (mostly his more sensitive areas) takes one hell of a beating during his first ever mountain-bike adventure.

Now officially a better marathon runner than George - and a rapidly improving cyclist and swimmer – Rachel is pushed to the limits after reluctantly agreeing to an ultramarathon.
Did Not Start also features more family camping holidays, a visit to Paris, the arrival of the Beast from the East, and some unexpected news from a former neighbour.

Did Not Try sees George and Rachel travel to Barcelona, Cornwall and the Cotswolds, and helps answer the age-old question: what happens when you are bursting for a wee while riding your bike, but an injured ankle means you can’t unclip your cycling shoes?
