To understand the title and following 'review', please understand that my use may be different than your use. I enjoy racing games, but in a casual relaxing way. I play lots of Assetto Corsa and Project Cars 2, but not in a serious manner. I usually do practice laps with some music in the background just to relax. I don't even care about racing all that much.
What I do use this wheel for the most, and where my passion lies, is with the slower paced simulators. Bus Simulators, Truck Simulators (Euro Truck Simulator 2, American Truck Simulator, Bus Simulator 18, to name the popular ones).
So with THAT in mind...
...let's start with cons and finish with pros;
----- Price when not on sale.
---- Real crappy software profiler. Lots of issues with lots of games the profiler doesn't "support".
---- Center feels absolutely numb and dead; no feedback when steering is near center.
---- Near the center and within 5-10 degrees each side, you can feel the teeth of the gears.
--- G29 red turning knob is pure garbage, doesn't properly function, doesn't always register and sometimes registers as double for one click.
--- Rather rough/grindy-teeth feedback when cornering, not like a real steering input/feel.
-- Small steering, way too small. Looks/feels like a toy.
-- Gamepad button clutter. Looks like a fancy gamepad, not a "steering wheel".
-- Clutch pedal has too little feel or pressure to feel right. Not worth using if you've driven real manual, too toy-like.
- Short cables.
- Don't like that the flapping gear changers turn with the wheel.
- Pedals don't stick so well to the floor or carpet unfortunately...
- ...especially under heavy brake pressure, because brake pressure is way too stiff too early.
- A lot of fiddling around settings and tweaking in too many games. For a "starter" wheel, I would have expected such a popular product to have incredible out-of-the-box support with most games having the right settings. Not the case. Most games have horrible settings that don't feel normal to a real car driver.
A MATTER OF TASTE
-/+ "Leather" feels a little too 'hard', wished it was thicker (especially considering the full asking price, which I would never pay).
-/+ Always does its rotates when PC boots or wakes from sleep.
-/+ Cables are tidy underneath, but also makes it more of a chore to setup and put away.
-/+ big external power brick with short cable.
-/+ the back of the "wheel" looks like the front of a mustang. Childish look in my opinion.
+++++ The cons make me anxious to upgrade for a better wheel asap!
++++ Feels really solid and well built. I feel it will survive longer than I want it to, unfortunately.
++++ positive feeling buttons, they feel solid and not flimsy.
+++ Apart from the gamepad looks, the steering 'looks' good with the blue center bar.
+++ Nicely shaped wheel
++ Nice metal pedals
++ Works very well with Assetto Corsa with no tweaking!
++ Assetto Corsa is the only game that makes this wheel feel good (that I know of, too much tweaking and numbness in other games)
+ Won't break the bank too much if your looking for a taste at virtual driving.
If you can afford it, skip this wheel. Get something with a smooth brushless motor. The grindy feeling of the wheel is completely unlike driving a real car. No amount of tweaking feedback settings can fix this.. and the wrong settings actually even accentuate the toy=like feeling.
NEVER BUY THIS AT FULL PRICE!!! Not even worth its sale price!
First I ordered here on Aug5 and received it on Aug11 and they sent a wrong item to me, and I tried for retrun. Still refund and returning Process is going!! It's ok. Then I ordered again on Aug 11 and got the product on Aug22. I plugged it on 23rd August. For Crazy I bought Shifter along with this. Worked very well in the starting stages. Pedals, buttons everything fine. FFB is Fantastic. On 29th August it's stopped calibrating. The wheel spins while restarting and booting after that it won't calibrate. Then I contacted Logitech onthe same day and still now I didn't get any response from them.
After long search in the websites, YouTube I found that this Calibrating issue not only happened for me but for many users. Then only I realised I made a mistake by choose this product. Still now I don't know what to do!!
1. Worst Logitech Support Team
2. Power Supply Adapter is not good.
3. USB cable problem.
4. Wheel Motor Issues
5. Calibration problem
If you have any doubts please check in YouTube by searching" Logitech G29 Calibration issue"
I will end my long feedback by advising to all my Known and unknown friends. " DONT BUY THIS PTODUCT".
Edit: I ordered this product In AMAZON GLOBAL STORE. NOT HERE.
The Driving Force GT that I used with my PS3 is just a toy in comparison to the G29. This is a proper simulator tool. I played hours of Project Cars and F1 2016 on my PS4. I noticed how easy it is to catch those slight overseer moments. With the game pad (same PS4 games) or with my old Driving Force GT (PS3) I had to set up all cars to understeer a bit so I wouldn't lose the rear end on corner exits. With the G29 I get great feedback that allows me to set the cars up to be more neutral. In combination with the great throttle pedal modulation, my corner exit speeds are faster than ever.
The brake pedal has great feeling. It is just like a real car (albeit not a race car, but how many "normal" people would have the leg strength for that?). At the end of travel, it becomes hard, simulating the brake pads touching the discs. You can very easily go hard braking from high speeds and slightly pull it back as the car slows down so the wheels don't lock up. I am playing without any brake assists whatsoever and have full control. I brake with my left foot and agree with another comment that the the brake/throttle are too close together for this kind of driving, but it would make no sense to right-foot brake an F1 or Le Mans prototype when in real life the drivers use the left foot (as they have no foot clutch). It was tricky to find a good sitting position with the Wheel Stand Pro's column on the way, but like the other reviewer I moved the pedals slightly to the left and it feels great, even though I'm 5'8" and my legs are aiming towards the center more than someone taller who could move the pedals further forward.
The paddle shifters are sturdy enough and do what they're supposed too. The "clicking" sound doesn't bother me even though my speaker volumes are low, but I can see how some people could be annoyed.
I don't have the stick shifter add-on and have never used the clutch, so my review doesn't cover them.
My only negative comment is the "clipping" you get when the wheel simulates extreme situations (like driving over certain curbs), which is a consequence of this not being an actual steering system linked to actual tires. Some calibration can help with that (lots of info on the Internet) but I found that the default settings provide the best compromise, as clipping removal tends to reduce overall feedback under "normal" conditions.
If you're a car person and/or racing fan that enjoys simulation driving, you'll be happy with the G29.
Older wheels from full play support.
I thought I would have to exchange the G29.
The clamp on the base was rock hard to turn
On one of the 2 screw clamps. I played with it
Back and forth till it begain to get looser.
Glad it's better. Got it for F1 2019 comming out
Late June 2019. Works well With Grand Turismo. Massive feedback.
Has a heat shut off. Can overheat with too
Many hours of driving. A little pricey but you
Get what you pay for. Many options from thrustmaster.
Most wheels are $200 - $400. But this one
Does the job very well . No regrets.
