A very beautiful presentation on the 88 constellations highlighting information about the stars that make up the constellation and some of the prominent celestial object that can be found within the boundaries of each constellation. The pages on the 88 constellations are prefaced by a visually beautiful and interesting 70 page high level overview of the cosmos from the Big Bang Theory to the life cycle of stars to the various types of celestial objects. While this book is not meant to serves as an observing guide to the constellations for those that have telescopes, it can definitely serve as a planning guide for observing a constellation for the beginning amateur astronomer. However I feel its main purpose is to provide the reader with a motivating and visually powerful forray into the universe! The only reason I give this 4* instead of 5* is that while the information on each constellation is intriguing, it is not always consistent. E.g., visually interesting graphic showing the distance each star in the constellation is from our Sun is not done for all constellations. And also because the sequence that the constellations are presented is in an order that is not obvious, so not in alphabetical or seasonal or proximity to each other order. Therefore one must look up "Constellations" in the Index to see them listed in alphabetical order and what page they are on if you are only wanting to find and examine a particular constellation. Other than those anomalies the book is quite wonderful and very glad I acquired it!
First of all, I loved the cover of this book! It is black with shiny silver foil stars and lettering on the front and back. Its beautiful. As for content, I found it very interesting and informative. It has information on how stars are formed and also has information about many constellations.
A really neat book. I bought it to learn more about the constellations, but it talks about the planets, the solar system, it's a great book about space. I like the graphics in it -- really helps you understand where were are in relation to the stars. Good spatial representations. Highly recommend.
