I have been a huge fan of the Resistance series since it launched on PS3. This game did a great job of reminding me of those game, but not in a good way. As I played this I was reminded how good the others were, especially the first two, and how this one paled in comparison.
I'll quickly list off some issues I have with the campaign: -Boring story. I found the story quite boring and predictable. -Boring Guns. Most of them are the same as past games, or slightly tweaked versions of them. -Enemy AI is terrible. Even on harder difficulties the AI is very dumb, making the game incredibly easy.
As far as the online multiplayer goes I can't say much about it. I only got into 3 or 4 games because the matching making doesn't seem to work properly.
If I could I would give this game 2.5 stars, but I rounded up because I love the Resistance series. If you are a big fan if the Resistance series I might recommend it. Otherwise, stay away.
At the core of the game Resistance : Burning Skies is a nice spinoff of the existing Resistance franchise. Instead of building on the progress of the PS3 games, Burning Skies tells the tall of a Fireman named Tom Riley, The game picks up in the early days of the invasion of North America by the Chimera. You follow Tom and a small band of heroes as they scramble to survive, neutralize the Chimera, and reunite Tom with his Family,
The only place where the game faltered for me was with the controls. Dual Analog can can clunky and cumbersome during heated fire fights, and some of the Touch Screen intergration feels forced. The graphics are okay but still remind me of more of a PSP game than a "next gen" handheld that the Vita is. Some of the guns feels "cheap" too. These may sound like big issues but they don't ruin the experience, they just keep Burning Skies from being a truly great game and instead leave Burning Skies as a game that is great at its core but technical quirks make it feel a little average in quality.
I was hoping for a time killer FPS and when I started the game I was content with it. Then on the second night I played, I made it through several of the objectives and exited the game. The screen said saving and all was good. Next day I start up, click continue and it freaking takes me all the way back to where I started the previous night.
So I figured I'd confirm this POS...I play, get just a couple of missions done, save and exit, start it back up and sure enough all the way back to the starting point....this puppy goes to GameStop for trade in.
I never got to trading it in, when I went to play it again an update came through and it now starts up at the beginning of the last save point (which it should) and I have been playing it much more. Not the greatest shooter, but no longer the worse
They did a great job with this game in getting a solid FPS on the Vita. The weapons are a blast to use and the story is entertaining. Sadly, the graphics are not nearly what they could have been but my guess is they rushed to get this game out for the launch of the Vita.
This game is okay. Doesn't really follow the Resistance story line. The game starts off fun, but every time you play the game, there's a long cut scene you can't skip. There's quite a few weapons, but not much variety in game play. Just keep killing the Chimera. No exploration just one path. I didn't finish the game. I got to the last chapter boss, and it quickly became to frustrating of a battle to even bother with. Don't really care what happens at the end. None of the characters are overly like- able. I would recommend renting this title before you buy it.
