I thought this would be too difficult for my 7 year old son but he is good with video games, and with a little practice he got the hang of it and LOVES the game. Excellent graphics, he likes moving the controller to make the dragon's do what he likes. It is like having a little bit of the Wii capability but with the PS3.
If you are reading this, you are probably wondering why so many users say this game is good while reviewers say it's bad.
Simple, it's a creative game made for users, not for reviewers!
Now, the game is a bit harsh when it comes to the learning curve, you do need to master the controls to be able to finish it, and yes, the dang back flip is a pain to accomplish, but other than that the game is VERY good, it has stunning graphics, which show off what the PS3 can do, and the controls are very precise when it comes to turning, diving or rising, you intuitively know how much to tilt the controller to go where you want to go. Now I've seen other reviewers say, controls are not responsive because the dragon takes a bit to turn, well, I have to differ, if you look closely, the dragon's head faces where he is going to turn, before actually turning, and that is immediate, so there is no real unresponsiveness, just think of turning a tank, you know where you want to turn it to, it just takes a while because it's HEAVY.
All in all, I was not disapointed with the game, actually I was surprised how good it was after such harsh reviews. If you like dragons and want to ride one, and don't mind moving your arms in doing so, then go for it!
I heard bad things about this game, saying the controls were horrible and the game was unplayable. But the analog patched controls are fine. I found that the game was fun and very entertaining it even had a good story. I figured out that I like it because it plays like the Rouge Squadron games on N64 and GameCube, The only difference is that you are flying on a dragon instead of an x-wing etc. So if like like those or any other flight combat game this game will not disappoint.
The game has its moments but it can also be pretty frustrating on a couple of missions. The game shines when there are huge battles going on below you and it lets you just fly over the battlefield and wreak havok. However, other parts of the game are marred by unclear or frustrating time limited objectives. If you're interested in this type of game and know what you're getting yourself into, try to find a used copy somewhere. The controls are alright with the patch but the camera sometimes just goes crazy and is all over the place. Overall it was worth the $6 I spent on it but I feel sorry for everyone who bought it at full price upon release.
Yes, I wanted it because it was about dragons. Yes, it looked damn cool in the trailers. Yes, it got terrible reviews about the gameplay. Yes, I did not listen, and I regret it. I didn't even go past the fourth mission because I was so frustrated with the controls. Lair makes you draw your attention from the actual game because you are trying to figure out the game controls. It's too sensitive, and when you try to do something it makes you do something else. I was REALLY frustrated!! Not a recommended buy. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
However, the best part of the game (and I really mean it!) is the music. This game has had one of the most epic, and glorious music scored for a video game. If ANYTHING, get the soundtrack!! That is a great investment to your iTunes library. :)
I love games that are set in a mythical time set and mode and this game definitely kept my interest and the way the gameplay was set up, only added to the challenge and mad it more worth while playing for me. I think that anyone that has a slight fascination with dragons or anything of that nature would like to play this game and at least take a peek into it.
I thought flying dragons around would be fun and it was for about 2 hours and then I was bored and haven't played it for over 2 years. The game looks good but the flying controls didn't feel natural and the fighting was difficult to master. I play a ton of dungeon stomp RPG's and this just didn't pan out.
