On the positive side, this is a richly illustrated and densely packed, informative book that will serve a space enthusiast with many hours of study and enjoyment. Particularly those who like to absorb facts. Indeed, I bought it for an 11-year-old with the intention to stretch his enthusiastic capacity for learning.
On the negative side, this book is occasionally a little daunting and overwhelming, with an encyclopedic feel to it and perhaps packing too much information into too little space, leaving not enough room to "breathe".
Yes, for a book on "space", is does not include enough of it somehow. For example, at the beginning of a chapter on one of the planets, the most natural thing to expect first would be a view of the planet from a distance, a real photo taken by one of the NASA or ESA spacecraft, so that the reader can get a sense of approaching the planet to explore it. Instead, it just dives straight into analysing the world with a plethora of information and illustrations and one does not get a sense of the sheer gulf of space between the planets in the solar system, which is crucial to appreciating the wonder if its existence.
In a nutshell, what I feel is lacking in this book, is an appeal to the human imagination - a sense of "wonder and exploration" for the magnificence of space, the solar system, and the existence of the planets and moons within it. I honestly think this book was designed and arranged by an "AI algorithm" rather than a human. However, it's still a massively informative book and I did buy it. Perhaps a warning though to the publishers in future?

Better than it looks at first sightAvaliado no Reino Unido em 24 de fevereiro de 2015
Browsing this book, I thought it might be more for children - it certainly LOOKS as if it has been designed with children in mind - but when it arrived, I was pleased to discover it was quite technical, while remaining very accessible, thanks to the wonderfully modern layout. I have several books on space, astronomy and the solar system, but this is one of the better ones. It is also only about half the thickness of DK's other large science tomes (which I also have), which makes it much easier to hold physically.

It's very tactile and it's mine!Avaliado no Reino Unido em 17 de abril de 2019
An absolutely fantastic book packed full of information with fantastic photographs and graphic projections.. I was seeking inspiration for my art work and I found it in abundance. I'm pregnant with anticipation at the other book I'm awaiting, "Constellations" . If it's presentation is anywhere near the quality of this book, then I'll be ecstatic!

Lovely book packed with detail.Avaliado no Reino Unido em 29 de dezembro de 2019
A really fantastic book with superb illustrations and diagrams. Although aimed at an older audience my young son loves looking through this and picks up all sorts of facts and topics for discussion. My only minor gripe is that it could do with updating to include some of the more recent global space agency missions - that’s me being super picky though!

I bought this book for my my 12yr old grandson. He absolutely loves this book. His mum said he carries it around with him everywhere. He had learnt so much about space and the universe etc. It’s written in good size text, pictures and very informative
