Don't get me wrong, though! This game is actually good for what it is, and it's a lot of fun. I was just expecting a lot more to it, is all. The lack of challenge in the gameplay isn't a big deal, but the lack of any real story development or cut scenes doesn't give it much.
As far as Final Fantasy games, the only one I have ever played was the Game Boy Final Fantasy Adventure title from MANY MANY YEARS AGO.
Playing this game with very little knowledge of the story or stories that have spawned between FF-FFXIII, as well as the music, made the game very challenging. The experience of listening to some great songs in the Final Fantasy series was a real treat! The game mechanics of leveling up heroes, the various unlockables, as well as still having access to DLC, makes this game a treat for FF fans, music lovers, and fans of casual/unique games.
Highly recommend picking this title up while it is still affordably priced!
This game has you tapping, holding, swiping, and sliding the stylus on the touch pad in time to music from various final fantasies (1-13, inclusive).
There are three types of songs
- field music, where you are traveling from one point to another, and may summon a chocobo along the way, depending on how well you do. The field music has a single "target" to indicate the timing for the notes. During holds, you have to slide the target up and down to follow the track.
-- Event music, where there's a movie (or clips from several FMV scenes) from one of the games in the background. On this mode, the target moves around the screen, and you simply have to hit the notes, holds, and flicks when the target hits them.
-- battle music, where there's four lines of targets, and you are "battling" a series of enemies. you have to tap, hold, or flick whenever any note hits a target in it's row.
At the end of each song, you earn experience for the characters you used, as well as find items to help you, cards for your collection, or shards to unlock other characters. You also gain RM points, which unlock various things as you go.
The game is simple to understand, but some of the patterns and rhythms, especially on higher levels, are very tricky. I find myself being drawn back again and again, just trying to get a little closer to a perfect run on various songs.
