Right, so we can all upgrade our ever changing gadgets with all the latest consoles and TV's bigger than our dinner tables but thankfully Mario never changes. A classic, brilliant and fantastic game, with all the nostalgia of the old game boy game and a few sneaky extras, you'll be far from dissapointed. Admittedly they have made it a bit harder and it gets frustrating when you have to restart the same level 18 times before moving on, but it's still addictive, and still great!
Controls are normally a massive thing for me when playing a game and quite ironically I hate the Wii games where it's all based on the exact movement of the controller etc, but this game is not like that at all. You tilt the wii remote to its side and use the up,down, left, right and 2 button, just like gameboy controls.
It's nice to see they still actually make games like this still, It's nice to have a change from all the hi-def racers and shooters once in a while!
This game has very good multiplayer. It also destroys friendships. I started playing the game alone and left the first world with 20 lives gathered. My friend then visited and by the time we had reached world three, I had lost all my lives and had had to continue 4 times. It is amazingly fun, addictive, funny, surreal and pretty, as well as nostalgic. My friend and I had to stop playing because I was becoming ratty and was hitting him every time he bounced off my head, sending me to my death.
In single player, it is just as fun, but because one feels that there are no obstacles (or friends as I used to call them) to perfection, I continually restarted games should I miss a coin or a secret passage or even if I lost a life. This made progress hard, and it took me about 7 hours to reach world 4. At this point I saw mario every time I shut my eyes, so I took a razor, heated it in a candle flame to sterilise it, and carved the world map from the original Super Mario Brothers onto my forearm.
If you are like me and love the original 2D side scrolling Mario games then this is the one for you.
It is the best 2D Mario game ever (at least until Super Mario 3D land is released).
You can play solo or with up to 3 friends (yes 4 people at the same time in a Mario game :D) and save and resume solo or with other people. The controls are great, back to the simple 2 buttons plus digital D pad with a small addition: you shake the Wii remote to make the character do a twist and grab things. A great control indeed.
Recommend this title for all fans of Mario and newbies to.
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 5 year old son. He's enjoyed playing it so much it's revived his love of the DS version, that he played with for months and months last year. It's great that he can play it on his own as well as with someone else. Getting to grips with playing as a team hasn't been easy but were getting there. Like the DS version it gets harder as you go along, however it has a quick save facility so if you haven't got as far as beating the boss you can still save what you have completed so far unlike the DS version. It is however very addictive and can be very fustrating at times currently slidding all over world 3. Wouldn't recomend as a game for the young unless they are really used to playing this sort of game.
I bought this for my child who is twelve, and he loves it! hes always playing it and even his 18 year old brother has started playing with him and also loves it, maybe even more than my 12 yearold!! this game is brill for 7-100 year olds and is great multiplayer and solo mode, you can have up to 4 players, it has talken him about 4 months to complete it with his brother( and that is obsesive playing) I would definately reccomend it!!!!!
What can I say? 3 years on, and this game is still as popular as ever. It is a game that can withstand time, and become an old favourite. Miyamoto has done wonders when he first created plumbers Mario brothers, and its wonders never cease to amaze the mass audience gamers of his games like Zelda and Donkey Kong. Simple, and yet effective, Mario Bros will outlive us all!
A non-gamer myself, I can be quite entertained by this game when I played it with my son. I found it somewhat hypnotic. The colourful background, the non-complexitiy of the tasks, all make this game, challenging, but not too stressful, and entertaining.
Easy and fun but with a little challenge to keep you interested! Often find games have lots of wordy instructions which my 6 year old struggles with and spends a lot of time shouting "mummmmm can you just read this" which if course he gets bored of and stops playing it. But this game needs no explaining and he just gets straight in there...and all the family can have a go without getting bored! (Plus because of a mixed age range everyone loves Mario and luigi).
