This is a great little unit, sound quality is excellent and low latency for music production but there is a catch.
Something which is a little quirky and caused me to return the item is that there is no way to control headphone volume and monitor volume separately.
I would expect a unit like this with no separate headphone volume to mute the monitors when headphones are inserted but it does not and there is not even any control in the focusrite software to do this ( a huge oversight in my opinion)
Luckily BAX music are great with returns so I have returned this and ordered a 2i2 which has separate headphone volume.
Just a quick heads up to prevent anyone else making the same mistake
Day one. My good quality laptop with Windows 10 would have nothing to do with it. Currently installing it on my old Samsung with Windows 7. Day three. The hours spent yesterday trying to make this thing work have come to nothing. The problems are baffling and progress is zero. Hope the vendor will accept a return. Day four. Gave up trying to install Pro Tools, and plugged the Scarlett back in to the original laptop. This time the computer accepted the Scarlett as a working device. Installed Ableton, which is also part of the bundle. The instructions for that are a bit of a mixture but with tech-savvy help I had it running in another couple of hours. All I wanted was a USB audio interface with two channels. I think I've got that now.
This is a well built, feature packed box which could be perfect for the individual which needs all of it's features in one place. The combo pre-amp, amp, dac and adc all sound decent and are powerful enough for some low/mid power headphones The main issue is the software/drivers. Depending on your setup, it could be completely fine. However, it seems overall inconsistent to the point where I'd hesitate in recommending it to someone, particularly over some cheaper or even more expensive alternatives
Bought this as my first ever audio interface. Chose it because it's so popular and has mostly good reviews. Sound quality seems okay, but two main issues were:
-- Faulty headphone output port. Have to balance my headphone jack perfectly in the socket to get a stable connection, and they work fine with all other devices. Clearly somethings gone wrong with the model I received. -- Driver install for windows is full of bugs. As mentioned by other reviews the driver install to get it to work with your pc is a nightmare, seems to be this way for a significant number of users. Basically the install froze, and I had to sort through online forums to get a fix. The fix worked but clearly loads of users get this problem.
One pro is that the video tutorials they provide to install the fairly complex DAW software are really clear and helpful. Overall it's a good value for money, basic interface IF you're lucky enough to get one that's problem free. I'm returning mine and going for one slightly more up market, I advise you do the same.
For the price I'd say this is not great value for money. It's not fully compatible with discord still despite being a few years old now. You have to set it to 48khz mode and set discord to legacy mode for it to work with no issues. (you get weird mic noises that people in discord can hear if you dont do this)
