Pros: Graphics are phenomenal and the environment is very detailed. The game soundtrack has a lots of variety, though I wish I could mute all the music to play my own music through soundcloud. The car selection and modifications are just as intuitive as Forza Motorsport.
Cons: After getting through the 1st tutorial seasons there's not much more to the game that what you already unlocked. After that it's a grind of trying to beat more and more races. The physics of the game are less realistic than forza motorsport 7, which makes sense for this game which is more arcade style. I wish there was the option to be able to adjust the car handling physics to where it was more like FM7.
Unfortunately I won't be playing this game year long until the next Forza comes out. Instead FM7 will be seeing time when I need to get my racing/drift fix. Sure it's an improvement from the other Horizon games, but the replay factor scores low for me.
Forza Horizon 4, like the previous Horizon games, has about the best graphics (scenery and car realism) of any race games available. It also has excellent car handling with the XBox One controller pad (I haven't tried a wheel controller, pad is fine for my gameplay). The races can be customized (blueprinted), you can choose time of day, season, and weather. The only flaw that bothers me is occasional abrupt changes in a patch of shadow or light. Most often it's one or 2 trees, which you'll see suddenly flash from light green to black shadow; half to all of the tree. That I notice and get distracted, mildly annoyed by, a few times during each gameplay session. It can also happen on ground; an area abruptly flashes from light to dark shadow or vice versa. All the previous Forza games share that flaw. I hope that in Horizon 5 the studio designers could progress and get rid of those unrealistic abrupt switches of areas from light to black shadow, or black shadow to light. Then I'd have nothing about the graphics to criticize. It's not a substantial problem, I ignore it - the game in general, 99 percent of the time looks great, realistic, scenic.
This is a great driving game, great ai, great graphics, great music, and the physics are very good. Amazing collection of cars. But... where are the race tracks?? For those, you have to get the motorsports version of the game. I want Laguna Seca. I want Road America and VIR. Where is Lime Rock?? None of those are here.
On the plus side, for 20 bux through the Xbox you can get the entire Ultimate add on pack with quite a bit of content. And Top Gear is there with challenges to do.
But yeah, though beautifully executed, this is a game about car culture and skills, not about a sports car racing sim.
Horizon 4 is an addictive car game. I it is more than just racing. There are tons of things to do. That all said, the game needs clearer instructions. Way too much is left unsaid or very poorly ... I would have said explained but the fact is in many instances there is no explanation at all.The player is left to fumble in the dark. The game is still very enjoyable if a bit frustrating.
First thing I didn't like was the 18gb update that took hours on my not so high speed network ... but once up and running I really enjoyed the beauty of it all. Worth all of the hype ... I love racing games better than fighting games and this one is the best so far. I really want more cars though ... so I'll have to pay extra for the deluxe version. I think you can still upgrade those items. I started off above average, but couldn't finish better than 5th in the racing games. So I went back to average and win 1st and 2nd now.
If you’ve never played Forza horizon, i HIGHLY recommend it! I loved Forza Horizon 2. and 3 fixed everything that was wrong with 2, but 4 is just the next one. I honestly don’t feel like this game is much different than Forza horizon 3.
