Great game so far. Very immersive but some of the areas are very large and empty. I am just at the beginning, but so far, pretty fun. Almost too you can do it is so open....almost. Good game looking forward to playing it through.
As opposed to the Greatest Hits Fallout New Vegas edition, or the Fallout 3 Complete Edition, this games "extras" as a digital code that you redeem via the Playstation store. Not a problem if you're going to keep the game forever like me, but if you plan on eventually selling it, you'll be out of luck and you'll have to sell it as a "vanilla" FO4, unless you don't use the code. Other than that, it's exactly what you'd expect. Even today, this bundled price is much lower than the collective prices of all the DLC, which individually put together, would come out to about $78 I think. So, you ARE saving a pretty penny. But aside from that, and the different sleeve, you're not getting anything special with this copy. No special edition goodies, nor a "graphically updated" version of the game. The graphical upgrades come through the Online Updates, through your Consoles Updates, regardless of which disc you have. So - reason to purchase this? - IF you've never played the DLC, and DON'T have a current copy of FO4, and IF you'd like something physical that dictates you've purchased the GOTY edition.
Like a lot of Fallout fans, I was annoyed when the GoTY Edition provided the DLC as .........well........a code for a download, rather than a standalone disc. Apparently this was done because Bethesda couldn’t fit all of the DLC onto a second DVD.
So, it wasn't until the price had dropped considerably, that I went ahead and purchased the PS4 GoTY edition. I made sure I bought it NEW so the download code was valid ! Be sure that you purchase a NEW GoTY so you too can have a valid code !
With a valid code, all I had to do was budget a couple of hours to download the DLC, and then I could start playing. As other reviewers have pointed out, the ‘Far Harbor’ and ‘Nuka-World’ add-ons are very rewarding and, depending on whether you do all the side quests, together provide about another 40 hours of game play. These add-ons also generally do a good job of avoiding the cheap strategy of artificially lengthening the game by simply giving enemies so much more HP that combating even the most trivial opponents involves a protracted struggle.
One thing I have yet to figure out is whether the download code will remain valid should I choose to can transfer to another Sony console. Guess I’ll find out when I buy a PS5 sometime in the next year or so (?)
With the underwhelming reception of Fallout 76, I’m glad I went with more Fallout 4. Now that Bethesda is reworking Fallout 76 to address the bugs and the playability issues maybe I’ll try it out, but I’m in no hurry: I have the Fallout 4 DLC to keep me contented.
The game itself is really not that bad. Actually, it is quite addicting, especially building settlements and tinkering weapons and equipment (and getting my hoarding fix). The only reason why this is not getting a 5-star rating from me is because one, like others have complained, why are the DLCs just a code for a season pass and not on a disc (I really don't mind having two if the game was too big to be fitted into one disc); and two, why do I need to download an update if it is just for Creation Club? Otherwise, the game mechanics have been a major upgrade from the last two: better graphics, better gameplay... oh and BETTER GAME MEMORY! Oooh, the frustration that I have incurred from all the glitches and FREEZING after playing for so long from the last two games! With over 200 hours in with a quarter of the map explored, I have not encountered any freezing so far. Glitches, sure, but they were minor. As for the story, it's up for debate... but doesn't really hold a candle towards Obsidian's writing... So, 2-stars for better graphics and for improved gameplay (so much better than the last two), 1 star for better memory, and another star just because I got this G.O.T.Y. at a reduced price.
Bought this for my son after he had read the reviews of people having problems with the download codes. He knows he took a gamble but is currently sitting in front of his tv watching the Season Pass content slowly download. If the Season Pass content had been on disk he would have said to give it a 5.
The game itself, with the DLC included, is 5 Stars. However, there is no extra disc included to download the DLC to your console. Instead, there is a code included with the disc that you need to go to the PlayStation Store, redeem the code, download the DLC to the console and then have it reflect in your game.
Long story short, the physical copy of the Fallout 4 GOTY Edition is pointless. You can just buy the original edition and buy EXACTLY whichever DLC you actually want or is available.
I’m old school. Bought the GOTY of this one player game specifically because I did not have access to strong/downloadable internet speeds. So I was disappointed with that whole thing. The game and DLC is your typical awesome Bethesda action-RPG, 5 stars!
I just recently started playing this game (PS4). I’ve never played an FPS before. I’m a JRPG fan. So this was new for me in every way. I’m not new to video games. I started with Final Fantasy for the NES when I was in my late 20’s, so I’ve been around the park a few times. But I’ve really enjoyed this game. For me, learning to play has been a nit of a slow process, but never boring. If you are on the fence about a game this old, watch some YouTube videos. It really is a great game.
