I have used these stakes in the mountains and at the beach, they hold extremely well. I ordered these after we lost our Coleman 10x10 with the big awning in a storm last year. The regular stakes that I have used came right up but these have held in different soil types in 20-30 mph winds.
These are wonderful! I bought 1 pack originally and then after using them for the first time I ordered 2 more sets! They hold in the ground very well, and never have I lost one. There's been a couple times I've had to use a hammer to pry them out of the ground--they're that good! A tip, when you're pulling them out of the ground, twist them as you're pulling. They'll come out much easier that way. I've sustained winds of appropriately 50mph so far while camping, and these haven't budged. Excellent product!
AS advertised. Used for a month long vacation in the Caribbean during the Dec. Winter Winds.
Gecko Active Beach Blanket
The sand pockets were of no match for the amazing trade winds. Luckily we also purchased some tent stakes
MSR Cyclone Stake Kit
Which turned this into the most amazing beach blanket. No matter how much the wind blew the blanket never budged. At the end of day you had to work hard to remove from sand. Slight twist and hard pull was needed.
I was quite skeptical of the engineering of these stakes upon receiving them. It seems like there isn't much for them to attach to, but once you put them in the ground hooked around your tent's stake loops, you'll see just how much holding power these have. They kept my tent in an immovable position in 60+ mph winds sitting on lightly packed sand, and actually made me worry that I was going to have to cut my tent from the ground when it was time to pack up.
I can't even imagine not owning these stakes after that experience. And they're so lightweight I feel I could throw them in with my backpacking gear and not even blink about the weight. Though, I hope I'm never in a situation that would require these stakes to hold down my ultralight tent. If you're planning on camping in some less than ideal weather and want to be extra certain of your tent's ability to not wander off, grab some of these and feel comfortable that your camp will still be in place when you return from your day's expeditions. Grab two sets of them and ensure that your guylines will be as tough as the rest of your tent.
These things are bomb proof and perform as advertised. They will not come out of the ground when attached to a canopy and confronted by gale-force winds. Bring a hammer to pound them in and some additional parachute cord because the included cords will break. Also be careful with bare feet around these guys (and when pulling out of the ground)... sharp edges at the top where the parachute cord attaches.
Great tent stakes. They hold pretty darn well and the anodized treatment makes them pretty easy to clean off. For my smaller tents they work great and don't weigh too much. The usual tent I use these with is a mountain hardware trango 3. I tried them with my springbar tent and they didn't work so hot. The tent stake locations are metal hooks and I had trouble catching the hooks and holding them with these stakes.
