When it has came down to the Need For Speed franchise, it has honestly had a somber identity crisis for the Nintendo Wii. It hasn't been able to have the real drive the way it did for Nintendo from its Gamecube era. With the dissapointing Need For Spped: Hot Pursuit failing to drive it all the way home, delivering the failed promises that were available and captured for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 renditions. It has been a downnote. But, for those whom are looking for a better Need For Speed title for the Wii, they should consider taking a step back like I did. Honestly what I found in a better Need For Speed title, is thrilling chase from going undercover.
Need For Speed: Undercover is definitely a better title for the Nintendo Wii, that brings more memories of what Need For Speed: Most Wanted drove home back in 2006. The game takes you on the outs, trying to capture cars from the undercover, whom are on your trail as well as the police in chases and street races from sprints and circuits, and toolbooth timed races to lap knockouts and trying to get ranked by beating the speed limits by cameras. The gameplay is very strong, with challenging battles against the cops, as you try to avoid blockades and patrols, trying to work your way to cross the finish line. You get to drive classic cars from the old-fashioned Dodge Challenger, to thrilling classic Need For Speed cars from the Mitshubishi Eclipse and Chevy Camaro. The graphics look good, but the gameplay is where it goes. You get to play with as many as 3 other friends at home, either through the Wii-mote & nunchuck, or the Wii Wheel, Gamecube or Wii Classic Controller. Overall, the control on the Gamecube & Classic Controllers are very strong and deliver the best for the game.
While I do wish that there could've been online play, Need For Speed: Undercover handles much better for those looking for the thrill of victory, and the agony of either defeat or going to jail. It definitely is a game that is worth it for the Nintendo Wii, at a very inexpensive price. I really loved the challenge on the game, and delivers a thrilling test that is worth each and every second you take on the speedbreaker to fo your best in the closest of pursuits. While I do wish that there was more to go under the gun with, I definitely am a bit more saitisfied here. It shows what Need For Speed had been missing for awhile, and should've been accomplished with Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit on the Nintendo Wii.
Control: B- for Wii Wheel, B 1/2- for Wii-mote & nunchuck, B 1/2+ for Classic Controller & Nintendo Gamecube Controller
Fun & Enjoyment: B for solo play, C+ for multiplayer
Bought this with myself and my 5 YO son in mind. We have had a lot of fun playing this game together. No real violence though he does have to outrun the police once in a while and crash a few roadblocks. before you get all PC on me remember dukes of Hazard? Basically it's like that, running from police and making great jumps. A couple cars get smashed up? How's that so much different than putting someone in the wall in Mario-Kart? My son is smart enough to differeniate between make believe and reality so that goes a long way. With all that out of the way I will say that the graphics are subpar (compared with other consoles) but are good enough that you don't notice the errors so much when you are enjoying a race. The cars look sharp and there is plenty of customization. The Free Roam is my sons favorite part. He just gets to drive around town and see the sights and he likes that very much. The Wii mote works great as a wheel and you aren't tethered by any cords or needing to find a place to put a wheel that is secure. We are really having a blast together with this. A great way to spend a cold winter day when he's not outside in the snow!
This is a fun game for the Wii. I used the Lodgitech wheel with game and it was very good. It gives force feedback if you have a wheel and if you dont you can just use the wii remote. If you are looking for a racing game for the wii this is the game for you. Its not the cheapest game on the market but it is worth every cent!
This game was not as good as the other NFS in my opinion. I felt like the quality was a little lower and there were some things that I really did not like. I felt like the story line was not well laid out and you spent most of the times outrunning the police with no real mission.
