I have been playing Rock Band 3 for years now, and it's still fresh. They've released literally thousands of songs for purchase as downloadable content, so my library is now fully customized.
Sometimes I play solo, other times I play with a group of friends. Experiencing music in this way is beyond fun, it's truly amazing. Harmony vocals and keys, which were added in Rock Band 3, really enhance the gameplay.
This game is a lot of fun. What an upgrade from Rock band 1 and 2!! I love the fact that we could download the old Rock Band discs to the PS3, so we don't have to switch discs to play them songs. The fact that you can use a keyboard with the rock band 3 songs is real cool too...Playing The Doors on the keyboard is a good time! I would most definitely recommend this to any gamers who are rock and roll junkies like myself.
This is a great game with such a variety of songs which could be expanded with the online content (i.e. The Doors & Queen Greatest Hits). The keyboard is fun, but kind of difficult to follow up in the "Key-Pro" mode. Graphics were enhanced and there is a "Play all instruments" mode that allows you to have guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and chorus, all at the same time. If you ended up with a +500 song selection in your PS3, the RB3 has an improved filter that allows you to reach specifically the type of songs you want to play (i.e. songs with keyboard activated, songs by source, songs by music type, etc.). A turndown is that if you buy an additional song from the RB store you'll have to purchase the "Guitar Pro Mode" separately for that song (two separate purchases to get a "Guitar Pro" mode for a RB store song).
You might not experience the crashes, and if not, consider yourself lucky. It supposedly happens while playing online or after downloading the latest patch, but I haven't done either of those yet and RB3 still crashed on me 5 times today. It happened when loading a song or other random places. Hopefully they will release a fix for it, but check the RB forums. It has been reported since last year and still no fix.
I'd recommend picking up a copy on a different version if possible for a few reasons. First, I've had the game randomly restart twice during game play in the first few days that I've owned the game. Second, I experienced hiccups here and there during songs. Third, the price for the ps3 version of this game is ridiculous. However, I do recommend this game for owners who only have a ps3.
I am glad to know that for the last music game made in the music instrument controllers genre, that this one ended with a bang. The best music game of all of the other titles. Huge downloadable content and able to download your previous songs from all the other rock bands that you already have. Fun solo mode and excellent online mode too.
They did what they could to keep it fresh and improve game play without changing too much. Its an enjoyable sequel and the track releases made it interesting to come back to now and then. Nothing revolutionary inthi game, just refinements. The whole rock band thing kinda petered out but curious what they'll try next gen.
I've always been a fan on the guitar and drumming games. Then rock band 3 took it to the next level providing users with pro mode. Play with practically a full drum set. Feel like a real rock star when you play with an actual guitar! Strings, frets and all. There is a good reason as to why Rock Band controls the market for instrumental video games. They rock your socks off!
