I was very excited to begin this book, after reading Spengler's, "Man and Technics." I spent several days working my way (yes, it fealt more like something I should have received an hourly wage for than something done for pleasure) through the first 75-odd pages. At that point, I finally had enough. Spengler's thesis is fairly simple. Civilizations are byproducts of cultures that live finite, cycles of life; and thus, all civilizations eventually fall. He further believed, "western civilization", was approaching it's terminus (an idea seeming increasingly poignant). That's it, that's the whole point of the book. One would think the idea could have been presented slightly more concisely than via a 1000 page word salad that reads like a schizophrenic rant, constantly jumping between topics, geographical locations, and historical periods. This is without question, the absolute most poorly written book, from a technical standpoint, I have ever read, on any topic, bar none. Terrible. Awful. Dreadful. Abysmal.
The words of the page are so far into the spine it's impossible to actually read this book. I was going to upload a picture, but you can look at the picture other guy's review where the pages are falling out, and you can see what I'm talking about.
So many books sold on Amazon suffer from this same disease, it can lead one to wonder if it's actually intentional low-key gas-lighting.
This book embodies capitalism and profit making at its most comical: font is so tiny, pages already falling out. Don’t buy this paperback edition unless you just want to flaunt owning it from the safe distance of your bookshelf - It not conducive to reading.
