The Cursed Memories story is fun and quirky. That alone kept me coming back for more. Though it takes place in a sort of alternate universe of the first game, you will find many familiar themes and even a couple of old characters. You sort of get stuck with the whinny princess of the overlord you are trying to defeat in the game. That raises many interesting and hilarious problems. The voice acting is top notch. Just an overall fun story.
Gameplay felt a little too complex this time around. It seemed to build a lot on the first game. It built too much on it IMO. Gameplay wise, the main quest is good, but I found the side quests just a little too much. This is a strategy RPG there is no traditional exploring. You fight battle after battle, so the battles better be really fun. But in item world, the side content, I was mostly frustrated and confused. I had a hard time exiting and could get stuck there for an hour without the ability to save. It was just too hardcore.
And there are many other side situations and distractions that help you power up your numerous characters. And while I really liked all that in the first game, in this game I was mostly just confused by it all.
But it still has a lot going for it. I enjoyed the main quest quite a bit. The battles and advanced attacks can be rather spectacular. You have to really plot things out. The graphics are simple yet still somehow satisfying. It’s worth playing if you like tactical RPGs.
I'd also suggest La Pucelle and the first Disgaea.
If you've never heard of Final Fantasy Tactics, don't like the Final Fantasy series, and don't quite know what an RPG is, this may not be the game for you. Then again, it may be. It's several months easier to beat the game than it is to max out everything.
