Input lag/delay, bugs and more. Read the online reviews from people and not game sites. Loads of people complaining about issues with day 1 release of game. Hopefully a major update comes soon to fix all the problems it has.
The game is just OK. Graphics are fine as are all new games. The gameplay is fairly fun. It is the story that is the biggest detriment to this game. I didn't feel motivated to finish it. Just a grind of monotony. Similar quests and missions one after another. The characters that I loved from previous games seemed tired, weak, and were used as props to attempt to motivate us in this plot. It failed miserably and simply made me angry that they ruined the characters from the old games. I tried all four characters and did not enjoy any of them. None of them had abilities that I really loved, like Maya in Borderlands 2, and all four of them felt weak when battling bosses. The abilities are bad. Going online and searching for ability load outs did not result in an ability load out that I enjoyed or felt powerful using. For every player. Even playing all four characters around 20 hours each I never found a weapon that I liked to use. Every single weapon has a flaw that ruins it for gameplay. This game is better than Borderlands 1 but not even close to Borderlands 2 and even slightly worse than the Pre-Sequels. I did not enjoy it enough to get to the coop missions after beating the game. This is odd as I grinded the tar out of the coop missions in Borderlands 2. This one just isn't compelling. A good one time play without replay value or much enjoyment. Suggest that you wait for a sale as it is not worth the full price.
I'm not all the way through the campaign - but there's nothing new in terms of gameplay and the edgy/ironic characters I remember from the first two games have been replaced by annoying caricatures here. And they've added a pubescent teen to the storyline - not exactly what I'm looking for in a world full of ruthless vault hunters. They've lost the magic.
If you're a hardcore fan or new to the series, give it a shot. Otherwise, wait for the "Greatest Hits" edition.
Borderlands 3 is not worth the purchase. At best I would say to rent it and that too may be pushing it. Why? The developers are more worried about "game balance", in a looter shooter, through nerfing players and weapons and drops than they are about fixing the game. The frame rate is still horrible. We still have memory leak (so the game bogs down the longer it's playing). The menu is still laggy. Split screen still feels awful compared to the previous games. Cutscenes are still unskipable. The game still lacks Freeplay (ability to beat the game and make a new character that starts after the end).
This is an untested beta version of a game. The amount of work needing to be done is ridiculous and Gear Box has the gall to push dlc out and nerfs. This will be the last Borderlands game I buy unless they make some serious improvements and fast.
Games great. But hate playing horizontal split-screen. Makes me nauseous and have motion sickness. I’m sad that vertical split screen isn’t an option like it once was. 🤢 can’t really enjoy the game like this.
Story is weak. Filled with Mary Sue characters. It doesn't have the depth of previous Borderlands titles. The humor has lost a step as well. Gameplay is on par with previous titles. There are numerous trips to Sanctuary that serve very little purpose than to inject dialog from peripheral characters. I found the character makeup largely gender homogeneous. It was somewhat sexist. The DLC is mediocre. I recomend replaying Borderlands 2 for the 25th play through over running this title a second time.
